Some of you may or may not remember chiming in your thoughts on a post I had a while back trying to decide whether to go with a new OB or a Rat cue. A friend and I both went in and bought one or the other and side by side it's hard to say which I like better but both I like for different reasons.

The only thing I have at home to compare the OB to is my McDermott G201 with the G core shaft which is a great cue for the money I loved it.

I've adopted CJ Wiley's TOI (Touch Of Inside) system and it worked very well playing with my McDermott, when I first switched to the OB with the OB2 it was quite a shock because I couldn't make anything to save my life. The main reason is that I need time to adjust to the lower deflection of the OB2 shaft vs the Gcore which will come with time.

Onto the cue it's self though, The OB130 is a Birdseye maple butt sleeve with small floating points of what I believe is ebony if my memory serves me properly. It's very simple but the choice of wood for the forearm and butt sleeves make it stand out, they are both beautiful.

The cue plays very well, for such a small diameter shaft the OB2 is surprisingly stiff where as my Gcore was a little bit on the whippy side on some shots. I do notice that there isn't a whole lot of feedback in my grip hand which I assume is thanks to the foam in the end of the shaft. It's not a bad thing but it is different than what I am used to which was a little bit unnerving at first. Again my problem not the cue.

I did a few deflection tests side by side with my friend's Rat and both cues performed very well, I'm not sure what shaft he put on but I know it wasn't an OB like my own. My McDermott wasn't the least deflecting cue out there but it was a cadillac compared to what I first started playing with.

Overall I love my OB, I do need to take some time to adjust to it which is pushing me to the practice room more. I ordered it through Seyberts.com and paid just a touch over 500 after having the kamui black soft tip upgrade and shipping. which is very fair, I believe it was 460 or so with no upgrades. I would highly reccomend it to anyone who is more familiar with low deflection shafts. Anyone who like myself has not taken the dive to something high end yet I would say go with the OB1 shaft first as it's a little more forgiving than the smaller radius OB2.

Congrats on the new cue!

Congrats on getting a new cue. I am wanting to purchase an OB cue myself however I am trying to figure out what shaft I want first.

On you purchase I believe that you have a very soft setup. The OB1 and OB2 shafts have a softer hit and then combine that with a soft Kamui tip and the hit will be very soft. If you can not get used to it perhaps you can try a harder tip.

I played with a Kamui Super Soft tip for a few months and have started playing with a medium Everest tip now, I definitely will be buying a Kamui Hard tip in the near future as I like the feel of crisp hit.

One more thing is that the Classic and Classic pro have a firmer, crisper hit as well. So if you absolutely want to stick with a soft tip you could always try a OB Classic Pro tip if you like the diameter of your OB-2. The OB Classic is also a firmer hit but has a larger diameter tip.

All in all I am sure you will enjoy your purchase and even without changing anything it will not take long to get used to the setup as it is!

Comment On TOI:

I play with Predator Z2. I did not understand for long time how CJ can make these cuts but then I found a solution for my level.

Here is what I did to be able to cut any angle I want with C2C, C2E & TOI while using Z2.

1. Performed some drills on a straight draw shot, tried different shot strengths and found one that draws my cue ball back further than others.
2. Then I tried to remember the feel, the strength. The stroke must be firm, smooth. It shall not be too much strong but not too much weak either. The ball shall draw back well far.
3. Then I used the same type of stroke for draw and follow shots.
4. After that I tried to deflect using TOI only. Worked like a charm. Now I am learning how not to deflect too much.

It is all about how you perform the stroke.

TOI is addictive. :-)
