i would like to know the following,

1) the taper of both the shaft. is it the same?
2) the deflection. which one is lower?
3) the spin. which one gives more spin?
4) stiffness. which one is more stiff?

in the mean time, im looking for either of the shaft with 5/16-14 ss joint.

thanks in advance!

I think that your questions rely heavily upon the players perception as the best way to find answers for 2-4 are to try them both out and draw your own conclusions..

I am not sure about the taper but I believe they are both conical, someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I have tried them both and personally prefer the OB-2. I see very little deflection, the same was true for the Z-2 though.

I don't know how to measure this but I feel that the stroke is where you get the spin from. I do however find it easier to draw my rock with the OB-2. Once again, this is my perception and am sure that the tip has a lot to do with this too. I am using the standard tip on the OB-2, I believe it is an Everest, someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Stiffness, I like the OB-2 in this department too. It just feels more solid to me. I have played with most LD shafts out there and went back to a conventional shaft for the past 2 years until recently purchasing an OB-2. I love it.. It feel solid, has a stiff feeling to me, although I've read others whom don't feel the same way. Just my opinion.

You really need to try em both out and draw your own conclusions, that is just my opinion. One of my biggest reasons for going with and OB shaft is their customer service. They REALLY stand behind their product with fantastic support. They also do a lot for the industry but Predator does too.

YMMV, Joey

thanks for ur reviews.. but the problem is in singapore, it is hard to find a dealer for ob. it is hard to find someone who have ob2. i went over to a dealer to try the z2. it has tons of spin. stiff to me. but i am interested to know abt ob2. if they are almost similar, or ob2 is slightly stiff and more spin i would definitely buy a ob2 as it is MADE IN USA, while predator is MADE IN CHINA. and i have heard negative stuff abt predator's service but i heard nothing but good stuff abt royce and his crew

Shaft taper

There are two posts on this subject that have been commented on in the last day or so. One is an ob vs predator post, and the other is titled Euro tapers. The reason I know is because I've been asking the same question. I want to try a smaller tip for the extra control and spin, but tried a conical taper in the past and it felt weird (I was just getting serious about pool at the time though).

There is a post from Royce at OB regarding their taper. The gist I got was the predator z had a gradual taper (there website has a picture of the differences in tapers of their cues), and OB is tapered more severely in the last 10" so that the shaft diammeter at the 10" from the tip is the same as their OB-1. I was gonna buy a used z sight unseen off ebay or here, but after looking into it I want to try both. Mostly the difference in taper, but also for the solid hit. Both cues are the most low deflection cues you can get, so which has the lowest deflection is probably the last thing you should worry about.

Anyway check out the other two posts. The one with Royce's comments was at least 3 pages and was updated yesterday. The other one I posted and its not too much further.

So is the ob2 a stiff hitting shaft? Z2 or ob2 more stiff? Anyone selling ob2 shaft for 5/16-14??

if you wanted, you could order a blank ob2 and have your cuemaker match the joint ring work up for your cue. if it is for a schon, there is an ob2 for sale in the wanted/for sale section. I was thinking about buying this shaft, but am unsure if i want the ob1, ob2, or the new shaft that is coming out next month. I can assure you that the ob2 plays real good. I have had them for a schon and a 3/8x10 cue. I liked how it felt with both cues, cause of the stiff taper, maybe a little more with the schon cause of the steel piloted joint providing a stiffer hit already.

i dun mind second hand one. mine is a 5/16-14. it is rather common i guess.

how much does it cost for a cuemaker to make a tread from a blank shaft?
