Tough enough straight in...try to bank it...and thanks for the opportunity to plug
I saw Toby Sweet step up and bank this three times in a row...more than a few A players tried unsuccessfully...which became the inspiration for this scene in my shamelessly plugged book WONDERBOYS...this excerpt is from page 50...Lombard is playing Boston Shorty some one-pocket...one ball left on the table...

It would be pretty difficult to make that ball in any pocket, and it was facing the wrong direction from Lombard's pocket. He could knock it around the table for a three rail shot, but the cue ball would move too much. Lombard stared at the table long enough for me to think he was looking for a way to play safe without giving Shorty the advantage.
And then Lombard made the shot that, to this day, I've tried hundreds of times without success. He screwed up his little mouse face and twisted the eleven ball up to the top rail, for a simple bank shot back down into his pocket for the victory..."
