object or cueball last during break?

Question to you... how can you have a good consistent break or lag, if you can't control the rotation on the CB? CB control is a vital aspect in the game of billiards/pool. Withouth CB control you can't control the most important shot, the stop shot. In order to have a good lag, you have to have CB control, same for break shot. NO CB CONTROL, NEGATIVE SHOT!

The stop shot has nothing to do with the lag, which is a soft roll hit in the middle of the ball or just slighly above center, or the break, which is a violent shot again hit almost in the middle of the ball, both are follow shots and yes I do control and direct their forward roll and rotation. I can lag a stripe down and back 10 times in a row, have the stripe never roll over and the ball will come back to hit and stop on my tip. Ray Martin can do the same thing 20 times in a row and bet you serious money on it.

The stop shot is a punch, with some distance its then a punch draw, even up close you hit below center.
You can perfect a stop shot and still have a lousy lag and break, bad example, they have nothing in common, you are confusing a follow stroke with a type of draw stroke sir.

I have change my 9ball break recently for a strange reason. I own Scorpion break and I practice 50 breaks session all the time. I used to break from the rail to keep the cue as level as possible, but I've notice after sometime, that black paint from my cue is wearing off and makes a black mark on my rail  . The shaft of my cue basiclly turned brown after while. I showed this cue to Johny, since he was involved in design of it and he adviced me to replace it. To avoid the same thing with my new cue I started to breaking from break box. I place cue ball on 1 diamond on short rail and 2 diamond on long on the head string. This way distance to the rack is shorter and its easier to controll cb. I've notice that this kind of break is much more powerfull. I usually move 4-6 balls down the table. I'm keeping my eyes on the one ball to make sure that I hit the right spot of it.

Make my day, you could have learned something new here. When I was a brand new instructor like you I learned what I know from people like me. One day, I became them.
what is bsaca?

Ram,
If you don't think stunning the cue ball like in a stop shot when off center is one of the top three shots, then you can lag and win the break 90% of the time and still get beat. My guess is you won't run out real often, so unless you play great safes it is probably to my advantage to let you break anyway. You let the cue ball go with your draw and mess up and I make a few easy shots and win. I like the sound of that.

Zim,

The game is getting better. ive been playing alot more. playing better players. and i can't wait to go to valley forge next year for the super billiards expo cause i want to play in taht tournament. I might be heading out to the windy city this year in October with a couple freinds i don't know if I'll be able to stay the whole time but i would like to go. But my game has improved so much. the old guys are starting to watch me even when i practice. forget when i have a game with one of the better players. they all are glued to the rail. Alot of them think it is hard to believe that in olny a year i got this far with no professional lessons except for one in March of this year which lasted an hour. the owner of the pool hall wanted to play me and see how good i really was kind of like the boss showing his employee how to play. well he must have been feeling good cause he gave me the 8 and everyone that was there is like he can give you the 8 or are you sure you want to give him the 8. well we played a race to 7 me winning the 1st 5 games him winning the 6th and me winning the 7th so im up 6-1. up untill this point he id not say 1 word. he played some really good safes and got me on 3 and it was now 6-2 then he started talking. i won 7-3 and he was quite but just happy he safed me out. I'm really happy on where my game has gotten and is going. hoping by next march to be able to beat 90% of the guys in the room. and if i keep accelling the way i am i will be able to.

If i go out for the windy city i'll let ya know maybe we can hit'em around a bit.

Something dont add up. You been only playing for a year??? If thats true then either the owner cant play a lick or you are fibbing about how long U really been playing.

Brian

or maybe you don't have the talent or motivation he does, so you wouldn't understand that someone can get that good in such a short period of time.

i've been playing for ONE year. before that i had only banged balls around every now and then...........and i'm an APA 7.........

just cause you didn't get that good in a year, doesn't mean other people won't.........

Eye on the CB.

I do agree with ramdadingdong on how to break as I do the same, looking up(OB) and down (CB) while stroking and when I'm comfortable with the alinement, I look at the CB *last* for about a stroke or two more and then bang away.

I also agree with ramdadingdong "I do not even see the rack, just the cue ball". My eyes doesn't follow any other ball after the hit, just the CB. This doesn't mean that I'm 100% eyes on the CB, ok. :)
