Just wondering if anyone knows what big players will be attending next weekend's 5k added Ocean State 9-Ball championships at Snooker's in Providence, RI. This tourney is near me and I am hoping that some of the international players that were at the DCC will attend this one as well.

$5,000 added, January 28-29, 2006

Henho, you're a lucky duck, I tell you! :p

I don't know at this juncture WHO is going to make the trek to Snookers Pool Lounge in Providence, Rhode Island, but I do want to take this opportunity to provide some INFORMATION about the event.

This is the 17th Annual Ocean State Championship combined with the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, which will begin promptly at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 28th, and will conclude Sunday, January 29th. These weekend events are the best bang for the buck, IMHO, and with $5,000 added to this one, it will be a good draw for many a player.

This is a banner tournament which means a permanent banner will feature the winner's name and hang from the rafters of Snookers forever more. Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich is the defending 2005 champion. Here's a list of the previous winners: 2004, Mika Immonen; 2003, Bustie; 2002, Mike Zuglan; 2001, Mike Zuglan again; 2000, Mika again; 1999, Hall of Famer "King James" Rempe; 1998, Mika once more; 1997, Mike Zuglan once more; 1996, New York's Gentleman Player Tony Robles; 1995, Ginky; 1994, Ginky again; 1993, Tony Robles again; 1992 and 1991, Mike Zuglan; and 1990, Rick Marcos.

There is a player's rate in effect at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Just ask for the "Snookers' tournament rate" which is 79 bucks. The address of the host hotel is 36 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, Rhode Island 02888, (401) 941-6000.

Michael Webb of Webb Custom Cues will be on site providing cue repair and sales, always a welcome sight to a pool player who wants to keep their stick in tip-top shape.

The address of Snookers Pool Lounge is 145 Clifford Street in Providence, (401) 351-POOL. It is hard to find if you haven't been there before. So allow yourself a little extra time for traveling. This is one of my FAVORITE pool rooms on the tournament trail. It features a full bar, an excellent menu, and service always with a smile. :)
