Off the wall ideas; cluster shots.

This is just one of the things I've tried over the years to break up my practice routines, especially between position drills as this will give your arm a break between drills.
Group all 15 object balls in a circular or oblong blob in the place where you would normally rack them in 14p1. Take a walk around the table with cue ball in hand and try to find and make a cluster shot. The balls in the stack should be touching in a random sort of fashion with gaps here and there. This forces one to carefully visualize the force path through the balls which refreshes the mind after something like a position drill and your arm is getting a break while your mind sorts through the stack.
I'm surprised at how often a cluster shot can be found in the stack and it's a fun and entertaining way to break up your serious exercise.
Cheers.

Good Idea

Great idea! A lot of cluster shots are available, but go unplayed because we just don't see them. Or we're not certain enough that they'll go. The fact that cluster shots (dead balls) arise is the reason why safes off the rack up to the head of the table aren't played frequently. Good post!

Ron,

Just have me play a safe off the stack for you. You always seem to find a dead ball after one of my safes.
