Hey guys,

I was wondering what the official 7 balls rules are. I'm not talking about "ESPN rules" for "Sudden Death" 7 Ball. Im talking about the rules the games is supposed to be played. I have a feeling ESPN changed it around similar to their 9 ball rules where the players have to call the nine and are worrying about a shot clock.

Just a guess but I don't think you'll find officially sanctioned rules anywhere for 7 ball. It's really just something ESPN decided to makeup because its a faster game and therefore attracts a bigger audience of amateur viewers.

Mosconi and Fats used to play it so I dont think it is somthing that ESPN made up. I think I remember someone saying that it was a game created so Fats had something he could beat Mosconi at.

Heya,

You may want to PM a guy named "hustlefinger" on here as I know he runs a local Friday night 7 ball league of sorts. Ask him the rules he uses. I would be curious to know as well.

Hope it helps,
Shorty

The official rules for 7-ball are located in the BCA Rulebook. The biggest difference is that the non-breaker chooses which side of the table are his for the 7-ball. He chooses after the break has been shot.

In the meantime, Poolshark.com has a nice link to rules for various games.

This is from Bestbilliards.com

It's copied right out of the BCA rulebook.

Thanks a lot for that link. I knew the rules had to be different then that game ESPN was trying to pass off as 7 ball. Thanks!!!!!

Back when

I was young, we used to play just like 9 ball, except
the non-breaker after the break had to chose 1 of the
side pockets for the 7, and the breaker got the other.
It made the game more interesting, IMO.
