Hi All,
To cut a story short, I am a Maple shaft guy and have been for past 3-3.5 years. I play with a Wayne Holmes custom cue with a Maple shaft. Prior to this I played with a Kenny Murrell with a Maple shaft, and even more prior to that, I was playing with a Lucasi with a Predator 314 shaft (original) - So have had some experience using a LD shaft.
I recently become curious about them again. After experiencing a friends OB1 shaft on a Wayne Holmes butt, it felt good, and solid and was surprised. I was able to play OK with it, not as good as the Maple shaft, but I did notice the ammount of spin that you can achieve with it. Im not a spin player, but use it where needed. Playing with Maple shafts all the time, you grow this 'hatred' towards Predator/OB/Mezz + more cue manufacturers 'performance' shafts. But after my experience with this OB1 shaft, I'm debating using one full time.
The Maple shaft that Wayne made with the cues are very very good and I have played some very good pool with them, but the feel of the OB has made me curious about a number of things with the main one being -
Will the shaft make one a better player; in the long run, as you have to get used to the shaft first. Obviously practice is a must as well. I.E. more consitent etc?
I'd like to hear from everyone (pro's and non pro's alike) about their experiences/opinions on the whole LD vs Maple malarky, and if anyone else has been in a similar situation to what I am in now. I have a chance to borrow an OB1 shaft for a couple of hours with the tip I am used to (Kamui Medium) tonight - UK time is 2pm. Should I go for it?
Thanks
