Ok healing shaft in 3/8x10 modified joint

There are no cue makers in Panama, but there may be a few people that can widen the inner diameter of the thread.

I’m just beginning to get into carbon shafts and I may be shopping for a few to try them out.

Thinking ahead, wouldn’t it be better just change the joint pin to a regular 3/8x10 pin and forget all this nonsense? It’s one surgery instead of several trips to widen a thread.

What do you guys think?

I would check on which shafts you are looking for, because I expect the major brands would offer a 3/8-10 modified. Cuetec does for example.

Others, like Whyte Carbon, make their insert so it fits both the original and modified.
 
The common inner diameter for 3/8-10 modified is .308 inch. It is best to bore out the hole on a lathe.
Without a proper lathe, you could use a 7.8 mm drill bit, carefully letting the drill bit self center. Then you might still need a tap to clean up the threads.
