OK, I have a question!

Call pocket should be the world standard. Having to mention every little occurrence of the shot is stupid. I'd go overboard with that to mock them -I'm an a$$hole though. I'd call my break as "Im going to hit the white ball into those fifteen balls hard enough that at least four balls hit a rail after the white ball hits the rack". Straight in shots would always get called too. "I'm going to hit the white ball into that blue ball with the number two on it into this corner pocket right here I am touching with both hands."
Anyone who asks for more than ball and pocket is praying to win on a technicality. Those people should be playing solitaire.

well from what I've seen when i head to my local dive bar is that bar rules are just easier for non-league players to understand. I had times where i would shoot by myself and have other bar patrons wonder why i was picking up the ball. Now if i play someone i know was in leagues, yea i will play BIH. i guess it all depends on your competition. i dk why but even though i am a league player, i still prefer to play people i don't know using bar rules. i guess because it bases their play more on skill then just getting lucky.

I mean this in all seriousness, what is the reason that most bar room players prefer bar rules vs BIH Rules? And, ironically I'm not talking about your typical bangers but people who actually can play abit still prefer Call Shot, and Pocket, ball behind the head string etc...

I ask this because as of late I've been going to the local hole in the wall vs my regular poolhall, and beating most if not all of the people that I do match up with. These guy's actually do play APA Leauge 1 or 2 nights a week, but when not playing on a League Night they revert back to wanting to play Bar Rules. For the life of me I can't figure out why.

What point or fact am I missing?

Black Cat

i practically lived in bars shooting pool in my younger years and just joined leagues in the last few years. i am also one that when i go to a bar nowadays i revert back to bar room rules. part of the reason is the environment and the old saying " when in rome do as the romans do.

the main reason i revert back to bar room rules is i find it a harder game to play than league rules. it is a lot easier to win with all the league rules such as slop, lucky rolls , ball in hand , etc, etc.

i have only encounterd the rules a couple on here have mentioned a couple of times, speaking about, hardeight, last pocket eight, bank the eight, call every little nuance, such as hitting the rail before the pocket.

any time i go into a new bar or face a new player i try to get all the rules straight upfront. only been a few times they say oh yea we playing hardeight after i am on the 8, its in the kitchen and they just happened to scratch, lol. i just say no problem and depending on wher the 8 is laying i will either attemt to just make contact with it or maybe try to pocket it.

i love beating them with one of these 3 shots.

set the cueball just behind the headstring , hit the side rail just past the headstring with extreme english coming back and hitting the 8.

sometime going down table hitting the end rail coming back and hitting the 8.

if the 8 is hanging in an upper corner pocket , my favorite is hitting the tip of the side pocket coming back across table and pocketing the 8. i love the look on their face whem i pull that shot on them.

of coarse those shots are not sucessful every time but when i have made them my opponent was speachless while handing over the money, except for the times they called me a hustler or worse.

any way, back to the topic. as another poster said, bar room rules make the game last longer unless you are good enough to run out.
