In mainland Europe and even more so in UK, both forms of pool (i.e. the type of pool played on 'American' equipment and the pool played on smaller 'English' equipment) are very much minority sports, generally scorned by the media and by corporate sponsors due to its downmarket image/surrounding culture and its proven lack of adequate spectator appeal for the viewing public. Furthermore any progress is seriously hampered by the petty vested interests and political in-fighting between several different would be 'controlling bodies'. Does it remind you of anywhere else?
