OK to leave balls in the pockets?

I have a friend that comes over and shoots a few games with me on my table. He has this annoying habit of telling a 20 minute long story before he breaks. I blame the wear on my cloth in the rack area from the extended amount of time the balls sit there while I'm waiting for him to finish his story and break.

It depends on the type of pockets that you have. If they're leather, there is less chance of damage to the balls although they will tend to get some dimples where they sit against each other. In plastic pockets, the balls on the bottom will get flat spots. And, you're right, leaving them on the table itself will cause microscopic dimples in the slate...unless you also have a cat. Then, the shed hair from the cat will cause the chalk residue to fall through the cloth and form a dusty residue on the slate itself.


I'm kidding. Seriously.
