Glenns issue is the scarcity of center distance (a 36" lathe). The offset center must be shallow. An endmill holder takes a couple of extra inches, about the same as a boring head which takes up too much space. But now that you've got ME thinking, you may be able to start with a MT3 collet to hold the center, it would save making/modifying an Morse Taper.

Dave, doesn't do Rube Goldberg machines, no Scottish folks with a farm background does, it's a bored-city-folk thing ;)
