Old Age & Treachery will overcome Youth & Skill

Just a euphemism. "old age and treachery beats youth and exuberance, every time."

It becomes more poignant, the older we get :p

I've played many younger players that shot far straighter than me. But I knew the old age and treachery would win out :-)

So where does Shane fall in your list?
Since he beat everyone, went 5-0 until the finals against Efren
Or are you only talking about gambling long races?
In that case what about Danny Smith?
He's gotta be up there
Or Justin Hall, Joey Gray, Darren Appleton?
Pretty sure they still have standing offers for any amount in their home rooms against anyone who wants to stop by
IMO Efren is the best there ever will be, Period.
And Alex is the top gambler right now, although I'd love to see Alex vs Tony 8 ahead for big money
It'd be epic, and maybe, just maybe, Tony could dethrone Alex
But first let's see how he handles Bustamante, Busty might dethrone Tony as top 4 lol

Justin 3-4 years ago probably. Now Its tough but I like Dennis, Danny, and maybe Shane but after Tony wiped the floor with him, its tough to say. Joey plays strong but he doesn't play champion speed. In a tournament Shane can beat almost anyone at anything, but ultimately gambling period, short races, long races, head sets, by the game etc. I like those 4 over Shane.

If Busty can give Josh Roberts weight, Richie 9/8 and the break, and scare off Dennis, maybe but after one match Busty is gonna have to beat a few more people.

From what Jerry C told me, Busty has been getting "lessons" from Efren and is playing One Pocket very well because he isn't as focused on rotation. If Busty wins then I'd be willing to call him top 5.

Well Busty has always played all games good, he got 3rd in the Derby, lost to Sylver in a 3 hour hill-hill match back when Sylver was top 5 around 2010 i think
And in the 6k entry event races to 7, with 8 top players he took 2nd
Had to double dip Efren in the finals, he got him the first match, but the Magician bested him for 1st the next morning when he was well rested
Now taking lessons from the best ever, should be a phenomenal match vs Tony
And i heard about Shane losing like 20k to Tony, but it was one match, and even tho Shane doesn't want any part of him anymore, I think if he put in the time at 1p, he'd get him back
As far as Efren gambling long hours, i wouldn't put him in the top 4, his age doesn't let him, in an ahead set if he plays a grinder, he's not gonna come out with the best of it
But that's not to take away that in any match that's a race to 10 or less, i'll take Efren all day against anyone on earth, longer races just don't favor the old man

I have heard this adage before, only as " old age and wisdom", which sounds much more poignant than" old age and treachery". Saying treachery is implying that the only way they can win is by skirting the rules. Saying wisdom covers the gamut of experience, including the knowledge of where the rules can be massaged in your favor, anyways just a nit.
