while playing the other night i saw a guy with an old dufferin two piece cue. he said it was not a conversion, just really old. i only saw it briefly but it had a strange looking pin. i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about these, mainly just curious since i havent seen one before. thanks

I played with a D. Woodstock back in -89. Short ferrule, firm hit and really sneaky. Brass pin in the shaft I think.

That is the pin dufferin use to use. It was brass colored and inverted I would guess. Try finding JPs for one.

I have one of these that I bought off ebay for 28 bucks with a case. I use it whenever I'm going somewhere, and the cue is going to be sitting in my car for awhile before I get to a place to shoot some balls. Its also nice for taking to a bar... It was the best 28 bucks I've spent! Its nothing compared to my Frey or Jacoby, but its straight, shoots well, etc. I've definitely got my 28 bux back on it.

I've always got a half-dozen or so around the house. I use them for break cues, bar cues, or even fix one up from time to time to give to a deserving kid. I'd rather see him start out with a real wood Canadian Maple stick than some far east POS from Walmart. The joint is strange, but it gives a hit somewhere in between a wood-to-wood and a piloted joint. The long unthreaded portion of pin is just a guide. It doesn't really serve any purpose, and can be cut off. The thread is 1/2-13 into an aluminum female joint in the butt. Dufferin called it their "signature joint". The only j/p's I've ever seen are the ones I made myself.
I think the factory in Ontario closed up shop about 5 years ago, and now the name is used on a line of imported cues. I hope the old ones never go up in value, since I enjoy buying 'em cheap just to tinker with.

They hit solid, I've got one, but the shaft is warped.

It seems too short for me, maybe 57" or so.

I'm not sure if that's a brass joint. When I worked on mine
about 5 years ago, I think it's some type of gold (colored) plating on an aluminum joint.

Not a bad hitting cue though, huh?

I had one for years and I mean years. I used it as my bar cue and break cue if I went to a poolroom. Best bang for the buck I ever saw in a cue. I was in KMart in FL. in 1980 for some thing else and saw it. Price tag was $29.95, so I found a tag for $19.95 and bought it.

I didn't switch tags for the $10, I did it to keep in practice. Johnnyt

Some sort of a trivia here, friends.

At the AMF-Puyat Billiard Hall that i play in (Makati City, Philippines), their house cues are all Dufferin - from the early 80's.

They are all one-piece cues and hit pretty well, too.

Some have a slight wobble in 'em, while others are still perfectly
straight and true. Imagine the number of people that have used them
over the years and the "punishment" they took from some! And still,
some of 'em are still straight and true!
