old gold letter joss cue...a question

What would a plain gold letter joss (they match up as well so original shaft) cue be worth? Cue is stained maple, in decent shape. Have a chance to pick one up, but don't know if there is a market for the older joss cues. Know there isn't much of one on the newer cues unless you get them at wholesale cost.

Sorry to say. it's only a little better in value compared to the newer ones. A plain one might auction for $200 - $250 if it's straight. I'm referring to the Joss logo in gold letters on the joint and shaft collars - 1980's logo. Look closely at the top of the joint pin - you might see a tiny Joss logo on it.

Chris, your attention to detail is only surpassed by your encyclopedic knowledge! I know this is the wrong thread but what is the condition of the 2 cues you are bidding on?

My attitude toward Palmers these days is pretty simple. If it's a cue I need or a better example than what I might own, I'll pay up to get it. Or, on the other hand, if I see one that's a good deal that I don't have many multiples of, then I'll be bidding. That way I can average my prices.

For example, I have an "I" that I paid $1,500 for, and one I paid $1,000 for. They are similar quality. If I decide to sell one (which I'm not because of the Szamboti/Spain nose) then I will likely come out OK because I only have $1250 into each.

Concerning the bidding, the J looks pretty good but who knows what the reserve is. The H is original, rough, and needs a couple of shafts. I paid up to get the "H" I now have, so I am hoping to average by getting this one at a good deal.

Thanks Chris. It is a 80's logo and it is straight. Asking price was 250 I think. I was going to offer 175 for it. I liked the old joss cues so may just buy it and keep it as a playing cue.

Yes, they're really good playing cues. A straight shaft alone with the old logo is almost worth that much.
