Old Honduras Rosewood

An older guy I know, used to make musical instruments as a hobby. He wants to give me a 6x6x36" piece of Honduran rosewwood that is a 100 years old. It was taken from the basement of a defunct piano factory in NYC. The ends have been sealed, and he claims it is a beautiful piece of wood. How much would this be worth?. I want to have a cue made from it. Should it be a full splice?. How many cues could be made from a piece like this?.

Thanks,
TommyT

What's it worth? Whatever you can get out of it. How many cues - approx 32.

wow!
Honduran rosewoods usually look just ordinary.
They are cheap.
A forearm square can start a 1 1/4 by 12-14 inches long.

Make sure it is not Brazilian Rosewood. Brazilian Rosewood has been classified endangered species. If border authorities spot it they will confiscate any article built with it.

I don't think many border authorities know Brazilian Rosewood from adam. Even some cue makers have difficulty id'ing it.:)

Tommy, Rosewood is quite common in pool cues.
Most house cues use it as the butt wood.
I have cut a few broken house cues up for the nice rosewood to use in new cues and they look great.

If the guy wants to give you a nice piece of it then accept it and say thank you. If you plan to sell or trade some of it I think most cuemakers would like a piece 1.5" X 1.5" x 18".
