Hay buddy!

It is a 1984 Paul Mottey. It hits as solid as anything on earth.
I have no idea of the value. Sometimes it is nice to keep a cue now and then.:D

Paul probably didn't repair this cue. Although it was told to me privately it is wrong to keep information that is told to me as a honest statement to myself.
The repair is dead nuts on. The cue could not be any solider. Sometimes the old time cue makers had a problem with the way the pins would split out their forearms when abused. So more than a few cuemakers had to figure differant ways to construct a solider cue. This could have happened with this cue. It is a very old example.
It would have been very easy to have the forearm replaced on this cue. I will not have it done. I dought Paul would do it. He will be retireing soon. Roumor is 25 years. So figure if true 2008 or 2009 and that would leave little time to fit this cue in.
The cue is what it is. A super example of Paul Motty's early work. Broken and repaired masterfully. I was told of the repair before I purchased the cue from a friend and even though I have sworn off buying cues for a while this cue was impossable to pass up. I need therapy! But At least I am down to a few choice cues now!

Well as the world turns

The cue was repaired by Paul. Spanky showed it to Paul and he recoginsed the cue and the repair right away.

I almost purchased that Mottey! I purchased another mottey 3 days before that one and just couldn't get both!

Nice cue!!

I hate it when that happens

Years ago I bought a old Scruggs veneer cue. Minuites later the origional owner came up to me with a silver inlayed Scruggs. I told him I wish I didn't get the veneer cue because I liked his better. That is when I showed him what I bought. The guys face went limp. He sais he just sold it to the guy that caught me at the door.
Something about the old cues. They just make your jaw drop. No matter the maker. If they were made by a master cue maker you see it right away. And usually the cost reflects what you see!

The cue was repaired above the points. The repair was done about 13 years ago. I see a straight line acros the cue above the points. So Paul probably added a tennon and screwed it back together with glue of course.
Then the top of the forearm was tappered to match the bottom of the cue. And everything had to be done on Pauls center or the cue would have been ruined. You have to wounder if Paul retappered the whole butt at this point because it is more of the modern sized handle than the old baseball bat I used to see on the old cues. It hits like a Balalbushka. I only hit one ball with the cue but that was enough.
The repair is dead on perfect. I could take pictures of the thing but the repair is hard to spot. So I can try to blow it up a little before I post it.

Repair

It took 3 big time cue dealers about a hour to find the repair. Once you know it is there it is easier to spot.
