Old school billard cloth (slow)

there were lots of different names. basically it was carded or worsted wool.
for a time we had rubber backed. played fine but not liked by the pros.

biggest thing was it was thicker and absorbed the humidity more so played slower on humid days. and overall slower and took a much stronger stroke to get around the table.

im talking 60's 70's and 80's cloth. and perhaps back further.

Stevens 21oz was the most widely used cloth on the big tables. Mali cloth I believe was manufactured by Stevens (not the directional cloth-idk much about that).

The rubber backed cloth was on barbox’s more than 9’ tables in my experience.

It had its pluses and minuses. Overall I always liked it better than the “fast” cloth. I remember when 760 showed up in 88ish. Everyone started running more racks on full pocket tables. Then later on 860 came around. Very early 860(I still have some) and a friend with it on his table-it was much slower than the 860 of today. Sometime in the late 90’s that happened. And 760 became faster as well.

As I recall it,
Fatboy
