I was just thinking on the old school cues where they split the plastic impact collars between the cue and the shaft -
making the shaft having a large portion in addition to the decoration ring on the shaft.
I think the early McDermotts used this, but I remember I have seen this on others including some of the really early Hueblers (having a joint ring/area
almost in a transparent plastic material).
What was the reason for splitting the joint like this? It looks like the old
impact rings was really long which I guess gave a special feeling.
Have any one tried these type of configs, how did they play in case?
Also, I remember the first cue I owned - the shaft had the joint screw.
What was the pros/cons for this config (I have my own thoughts on this but
it would be fun to hear what you think) ?
Have not played with the first config but the second was used 20 years back,
but in a memory lane thought I was just curious
