Olhausen Grand Champion Questions??

Have you asked the dealer how much a brand new 9' Grand Champion would be? If it is cheaper than the Waterfall perhaps that is the best compromise between the 8' bargain and the 9' Waterfall and you can get it brand new with any color cloth you want!

Well, he is selling the 8ft ones (excluding this floor unit) for $4995, and had said the with most all of the tables, that it would cost $300 to upgrade to the 9ft models. So my guess is approx $5295 for the 9ft Grand Champion. The Waterfall would therefore also be $6295 for the 9ft model. I am sure he may bargain on that price though, but still quite a bit more than the 8ft floor model. So I dunno

$300 to go from 8 to 9 feet on a $5k table is less than you'll pay in sales tax for the whole thing (6%). I don't personally call that "quite a bit more" but that's your call.

I'd get the 9. But I've said that so repeating it is just gonna be annoying, so I'll stop... but I did want to point out the whole "margin" thing. $300 on a $5000 purchase is nearly a rounding error and, in my opinion, you get quite a good bit more out of it.

As for bargaining, etc., my only words of caution are to be careful. This is the only dealer near you (IIRC), so you don't want to tick him off. Decide on what you want, or possibly two configurations, and ask him for his best price, cash paid up front, for each. At the most, ask for a set of good balls after that.

All IMHO, of course.

think long term

The satisfaction of high quality lasts far longer than the transient thrill of a bargain.

Can I get an amen?

Get the 9.
The Grand Champion, outfitted exactly as you want, or The Waterfall, again, outfitted exactly as you want.

Man, I wish I were facing these tough decisions!

Your not being annoying...not at all. I appreciate all your input! I think my last post may have been worded a little off. $300 to go from 8ft to 9ft on a $5K table is nothing and I agree fully, and if it was between the two, I would most definitely go with the 9ft, but thats not the case in my particular situation. It is between the 8ft version at $3995 (floor model) and the 9ft one at $5300 (has to be ordered). That changes things a little. Basically you could say my choices are:

- 8ft Grand Champion *with Chrome package* (Floor model brand new) for $3995

- 9ft Grand Champion *base model* for $5295 (has to be ordered)

- 9ft Waterfall *base model* for $6295 (has to be ordered)

Now all of these prices were before any price haggling/negotiating at all, but that is what I have for now.

I understand that train of thought too....which just makes it harder....lol....why.....because I have a terrible addiction to bargain shopping, no matter what I am buying. I think I will be satisfied with ANY of them from the 'only playing for fun' and 'quality' standpoint, but maybe I am wrong there...:(

Here is the thing about tables. There are 2 things that go bad on a table. Cloth and Cushions. Olhausen makes great tables. I have yet to run across one I do not like. Brunswick tables vary way to much. Some will be decent while others I wouldn't throw in the trash because it's not worth your time.

8's are great. If your putting it into a bonus room you might actually prefer an 8' because on a 9' you notice variances in the floor much more. As in you walk to one side and you throw the level off.

If you want some good tables for much cheaper that are brand new I can send you to some other companies. Especially if your just wanting to play around.

Years ago, I had a 9-ft Gandy which was tricked out for me (triple-shim,etc). I got in pretty good stroke on it, and loved the table, but.....no one who came to play could run two balls, got frustrated and bailed out quickly (since most of these visitors were young ladies for which I had a Hugh Hefner evening planned out, you can imagine my angst). Also, there was always a space problem around the table. If you are not concerned about the effect an 8-footer will have on your game (and it WILL hurt your 9-foot game), I would jump all over the 8-footer, spend the money you save on a "table-christening party", and future non-champions who play on your table will be most grateful.

his pricing is right on. i sell a grand champoin for $5500 - no up grades(simonis, sights, delivery). but with the price of the waterfall, i still say it is a damn good price.....take it..LOL

Please don't go down the bargain route. If a table is crappy it's really not a bargain at any price, you know what I mean?

It's like saying "I bought these socks for only $1! They only last once in the washing machine, though."

Stick with Olhausen or one of the other four or five good brands.

Olhausen Waterfall

I was offered a brand new Waterfall, 8 ft. pro, simonis cloth, double diamond sights, aramith balls, 4 mcdermott cues, racks, etc. for $4900
