Stolis lounge in Omaha has free pool on sundays. If anyone in the Omaha area wanted to know. Big Johns has tournaments on Sunday it’s a $10 buy in while also having free pool on Mondays. I couldn’t play the tournament today since I have a couple bids to do here in the afternoon. I went to another location to shoot some games today and found out about the free pool here. They only have a pair of valleys with slow cloth. But still, it’s free. I’m still on the quest to find some diamond tables within the area.

Years ago, they had free pool on Wednesday's from 5-7. That was 1986 and how I got into pool ;)

I miss their snooker tables.

Only Diamond tables I know of locally are at Golden Cue in Council Bluffs, or Madsen’s in Lincoln. If you find any others let me know.

Several Pool Room, and Bar had free Pool up to 4pm, with Drink purchase in Phoenix.

Not sure those deal still exist?

Was told about a place called shooters in Bellevue. Supposed to have two diamonds. I heard golden cue cut down. I don’t find myself on the Iowa side much anymore. Next time I am, I’ll drive by and see if they are still open. Wasn’t the two owners of golden cue pros at one time?

I haven’t been to Shooters in a few months. They’ve never had any Diamonds though. Just Valleys as far as the eye can see. I’d much prefer to play on Gold Crowns at Big John’s, or drive to Madsen’s for a Diamond. Never been a big fan of Golden Cue. I’ve got no idea who the owners are.

Someone said they just got two tables recently. Google shows then having two diamonds as well. I shot in a couple of the tournaments that they had at golden cue last year. They usually had a large crowd for those. 20+ people the couples times that I went. The only problem was they started them too late. They also used a computer monitor to show the bracket which was pretty nice. But the Asian lady and the older gentleman that owned it said they used to shoot professionally. The older guy no longer shot and wore an eye patch.

Was that once called Fort Crook Billiards?

Either way, that place was there back in the late 80's/early 90's, I've played there many times.

The best thing is it's close to Stella's, which might have the best cheeseburger in Omaha. (I really do miss the food in Omaha).

Man oh man I’ve only lived here in Omaha since the beginning of 2020. I’ve ate there numerous times. Broncos is amazing too. I get the double bronco burger add fried egg.

There was a Bronco's (120th & Pacific) about 3 blocks from middle school and an old quarter arcade about 50 yards from that, needless to say, I've spent an obscene amount of time at both places after school.

Runza actually has the best double cheeseburger for a small chain. Every time I go there with someone they order a Runza and I order a double cheeseburger, they usually wish they ordered a burger :) The fries are amazing also.

Since this is an Omaha thread I'll throw in some of my other favorite places to eat - pool players gotta eat :)

Pizza:

La Casa (thin and they use nothing but Romano cheese, no Mozz)
Valentino's Pizza (thick and gooey, great pizza)
Big Fred's Pizza (Similar to La Casa)

Mexican:
El Bee's and/or Fernando's - original El Bee's was 10 minutes from my house in Elkhorn. Brothers split up and one kept original and the other opened Fernando's - pretty much the same food.

Neither of them are traditional Mexican restaurants (which I prefer), it's more Americanized but it's better than Tex-Mex - which I'm not a fan of.

Traditional Restaurants:

Brother Sebastians (the atmosphere changed after it burned down decades ago but the food stayed the same - used to be the best prime rib in town)
Pink Poodle (This is actually in Council Bluffs but had better prime rib than Brother Sebastians)
Johnny's Cafe - when my dad was young he worked at a kill plant and a cow got out one day and ran though the restaurant! LOL
Joe Tess's place - best catfish tails in the region - so they say - I ordered the chicken :)
Gorat's Steakhouse is staple of the city, I've been there a couple of times but would prefer Brothers or Pink Poodle for a steak

I believe at one point, Omaha had more family owned restaurants, per capita, than any other major city. Given it's location to the largest stockyard in the world (at one point) nobody was surprised. They had/have some very neat old Italian places also but I'm not sure if any of them are still going.

On top of that, there are a million other great places to eat in the area! I really do miss the food there.

Man pizza joint they have called the brick oven right next to Nebraska furniture mart is the best in town now IMO. Huge thinner style pizza, with the yeasty crust 🤤 but I’ll definitely have to check out those other places. Mexican they have margaritas and the white cheese sauce on the chimichanga is amazing.

My guess is you'll like Big Fred's and La Casa.

When I wanted real Mexican food I went to the taco trucks in So. Omaha, I never really found a "favorite" place though, just kind of bounced around.

Unbeknownst to many, the gold crowns at Big John's in Omaha are 8 foot tables ... only two of them are 9 footers.

There are many great restaurants in Omaha, although really only one pool hall. Big John's is a fine place, and there are many bars with a focus on pool, but there were once many other places to play. There is still The Upstream, a brewery downtown which has good food and is reasonably priced. They used to have a pool hall upstairs, and although they still have three tables, I don't see many shooters there anymore. Other than that, there are no places left where you can both shoot pool and get food. I used to play out of The Shark Club, a pool room attached to a hotel that had decent food. It had a reputation as a rough place, but really it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. It could get pretty crowded on the weekends, but I never felt unsafe. If you wanted something nicer, there was a place called Fox and Hound, which was more suburban, with Applebee's style food and nicer pool tables than you would have thought. Big John's had food back then, and it was even pretty good!

Funny story about those 9 footers. I started going to Big John's in 1986 when it was 8 footers, I think 4 bar boxes, and two snooker tables. I went back about 10 years ago and they had installed the 9 footers since I had been there last (maybe a 5 year span), I asked the guy behind the counter when they got the 9 footers and he said "They've always been here", I informed how long I had been coming here and they didn't always have 9 footers, he insisted and I chuckled. LOL. A a friend I've shot pool with since the late 80's was with me, he laughed it off too.

Big John's doesn't have food anymore? I didn't know that. It was ok, their hot dogs were pretty good, they were foot longs grilled on the flat top, and cheap ;)

Fox and Hound was a nice place, we played league there quite a few times.

There were (15 years ago) many bars with an emphasis on pool. I played in the Southwest Omaha Pool League (city league) for years and we played all over town - not just SW Omaha. There were also some very shady places we played at. Don't remember the name but there was a bar in South Omaha that was horrible, I watched a guy take a full glass pitcher of beer and just bash some guys head in. Nobody knows why, he had called a cab and when it arrived out front he walked from the back with his pitcher and just bashed this guy then ran out the front door. We ran after him but the cab driver took off, we're all pretty sure he was in on it. Guy ended up in the hospital.

I liked the Pool Deck on 63rd and Grover, not sure if it's still there though.

We also played in a North Omaha bar that was basically an all black bar. I actually went to school in the neighborhood for 6th and 9th grades (good 'ole bussing in the 70's and 80's) so I fit in pretty good and got along with everyone. Turned out to be a fun night.

Jacker's and Muldoons were two places we played out of, weren't bad. Muldoon's has/had great food.

Nino's was always fun. Nino was mid 60's back then (mid 90's) and was an old boxer from the 40's and 50's (maybe 60's). He had massive hands, I don't remember how many balls he could pick up with one hand but it was a lot, 8 maybe?

EDIT: Nino's was actually a double wide trailer, somewhere around 60th and Grover.

I had some good times playing pool back in Omaha.

LOL. this is the So Omaha bar where the pitcher incident took place.

There was also a guy who would walk through the bar with a trench coat selling watches, yes, he would literally walk up to your table and open his coat and ask if you wanted to buy a watch. He had all these watches hanging from it on the inside (just like the picture you're imagining). LOL, good times.
