OMGWTF vs HairDildo Part 2 - US Amateur

From my understanding, there's no money. It's trophies and entry into a pro event. This is no knock on the people that end-up playing because many of them do it for many different reasons but I can't justify playing in an event like this unless it's in my own backyard. I'm sure there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of players that feel the same way.

I'm with you on this.

I played in one of these and made it to the middle of the final tournament only to lose to Orange from Georgia.

If the finals were in my backyard, I would be playing for sure. :)

Well, sorta. You get a $300 allowance for airfare. The last time I went, the cheapest I could get was over $400 (not horrible but not free). As well, the hotel wasn't entirely "paid". You're expected to bunk with another competitor OR pay half price. That's not to mention that the "free nights" do not include the night BEFORE the event (the obvious night anyone would arrive) but does include the night of the finals (the obvious night anyone would leave). In sum, you end up paying for half of the hotel cost for 3 nights and one full night so it's about 37.5% off.

Listen, I enjoy the APA on the local level and although I'm not active right now, I'm sure there will come a day when I'll play again. But make no mistake of it, you will pay money to go to Vegas. There is no doubt in my mind that the average person must spend money to go. It's subsidized, sure. But it's not free.

I have qualified and played in this a few years ago. Even though the APA sponsors this event, you do not need to be a member. The only benefit to being an APA member is that you pay a slightly discounted entry fee.

The Main Sail resort is where they put you up. Each player gets a two bedroom apartment with full kitchen. It is very nice. You get to choose which night you want to stay. You can stay Thursday, Friday and Saturday if it suits you. That's what I did.

I drove and paid for my own gas. I have no idea about airfare.

You guys are correct about winning your bracket. I came in second this year so I get to watch it on the stream with y'all. I'll come back next year. I qualified the year that SVB played Donnie Mills down the street from Strokers. Since I stunk it up and lost early I got to watch some of that match at the Crooked Cue (I think that's the name).

Woody and crew runs a great tournament at Mr. Cues. In fact, it's one of the best ran tournaments that I get to play in. I'm fine with the lack of money payout. I've been playing six years in this thing and have never seen an altercation. Great competition with good people makes this a good time. Come on out and try it.
