On Sending Two AzB Players To The U.S. Open

I noticed in the other thread that someone thought they might be able to get Free airfare for one or both AzB players being considered for entry to the U.S. Open. I also noticed that there hasn't been enough money pledged to send both players if they have to pay their own airfare, plus entry, plus room, meals, etc... So, I'm thinking that maybe some pool related business might step up with a larger contribution IF we (or someone with connections) can get one of the pool magazines (BD, P & B, IP, etc.) invovled. You know, a story about how the members of an online pool website got together to send one (or two) players across the country to participate in the U.S. Open. The magazine might mention that besides the <insert number here> 50? website members that donated <insert figure here) $1,275?, that major donations finally making the trip possible were made by <insert cuemaker, poolroom, cloth mfg., case maker, etc. here>... It might make an interesting 'everyman' story (imo).. Doug

Before I can even look into the free airfare thing, I need to know where the people live that would be going.

Upon reading their profiles here, it appears that they are both in Arizona. Jimmy M. in Phoenix and no city listed for Rude Dog. They'll be going to Virginia Beach,VA. (I 'think')..... Doug

??????

Did I read correctly in the other post about sending Rude Dog to the Open that he said he wouldn't be able to go because his PO wouldn't let him leave the state of Arizona? Just wondering.... Everybody seems to be hyped about sending him but he says he can't go because of his situation, correct?

With permission from my P.O., and 10 days notice, he sometimes lets me go out of state for 3 days max. I don't like to do it though because I have to sit in the finger print lab for 3 hours every time. Verrrrrrrry boring!

So far, that has been true, but with the trips I have taken and there not being any problems, I gain his trust and an exception can be made. I've discussed this with him already and he said that if it happens, he will do everything in his power to get me the permission to go. The boring part that I mentioned is having to go to the federal building to get finger printed and in Vegas, that takes at least 3 hours each time.

I live in Kingman, Arizona, about a 4 hour drive from Phoenix.

I live about a 12 hour drive from the tournament and regardless of who is picked I'll at least be there to sweat some matches. I believe Rude dog and Jimmy would both be good choices after all the feedback from different players. Depending on the amount of money raised, that would be great if they shared a room and got free or at least discounted airfare, cut back that expense money a bit to say $30 a day for food, and for around $2500 we got 2 horses running. I'm glad to hear that. I think everybody deserves a second chance. Regardless of who goes, I am definitely going and hope to meet you there, along with some of the other posters on here.

I'm waiting too. Someone is going to have to take charge and do this. I'm willing to donate my $25.

I am in too! Let's get this puppy rollin'!

BTW- I still think PayPal is the way to go. If folks want to use credit cards, there is (I believe) a 3% charge, so your (our) $25 becomes $25.75. Small price to pay, IMO.

Hope when I check back tommorrow there's a PayPal account to donate to!

Somebody's going to have to set it up and I would bet Mike will not get to it soon.

We've still got 2 months at least.

Get The Ball Rolling

Check the "Who Is Going" post. I will be the point man if you wish. I want to see it happen. I am going to put the tournament raffel cue up tomorrow. I can book the room. I work at the bank. Bank drafts are free to me. I also have fed wire if needed. I am willing to give my time and money to see this happen. Any other ideas are welcome. You can PM me here or at dpurdman1@aol.com
Thanks, Don P.
