One Ball On The 9-Ball Break

seems like so much of the time when i break a rack of
9-ball the '1' ball will go downtable and end up on the short rail, and, as a result, i have no chance at running out.

anyway, was wondering if you posters out there can offer a solution to this situation? seems like this happens to me alot. and my apologies if this subject has been covered before.

What usually happens to me is the 1 will end up on the top rail, so, IF I AM RACKING FOR MYSELF, I will try to get the CB on (around) the top rail too. When someone else is racking, I will still try to keep CB in center table, due to my belief that I have more confidence in the consistancy of my racks, 'coz I can see 'em (good/ bad racks notwithstanding...).

-oink!

Yes, in this situation you are hitting to thin on the 1 ball and it goes past side pocket and down the table. Try to hit the 1 ball as full as possible and keep the cb in the center of the table. Even if you miss one ball still you won't be to far from the object ball.
I know it is difficult on the break, but try to see how full you hit the 1 ball(recommended - video tape it!!!). Break 50 times each time you practice and see how many of those are break and runs(even include 9 on the break, combos & carooms).
Tell me the result and than we will see if we can shake the hands :D

You can try this kind of Break. Use center ball aim, Left side rail (or the opposite) maybe just a hair low (1/16 of an inch). Hit the One Ball on the contact point between the intersection of the Headstring & the Left Rail & on a Line to the first Diamond on the Foot Rail in from the opposite Long Rail. The One Ball will head toward the side pocket, if it does not go, it will rebound toward the corner pocket you were standing next to. The Cue Ball will bounce off the Long Rail you were standing next to & rebound to the opposite side of the table from the One ball & you have a shot.

All this is fine a dandy & takes some practice.

Ask yourself a few questions.

Where is the next ball to shoot?

What if I do not make a ball, have I just lined up a runout for my opponent?

The Break Shot can be your friend or your opponents friend.

With two balls frozen 90 deg. to a pocket (opposite of a straight in combo shot), you can hit one of the balls at about 45 deg. and get it to go in the pocket.

Notice that the one ball and the ball behind it are basically pointing (90 deg. opposite) toward the side pocket. Just rack these two balls and practice hitting the one ball into the side pocket as if you were breaking. Try breaking from the first diamond on the kitchen short rail away from the long rail. Move the cue ball left/right when breaking to adjust the aiming to get the one ball in the side pocket.

Wei: Use the two balls on left lower corner for paractice. Then try with only two balls in rack for hitting side pocket.

In actuality, on a 9 foot Pool Table, the 90 degree CAROM point, on the 1st Ball & the Second Ball, is pointed to approximately the intersection of the first Diamond past the side Pocket & the edge of the Cushion. The Lead Ball rebounds closer to the pocket, because of resiliency of the ball.

Practicing this shot will help you make the Lead Ball on the Break Shot in just about all games. But if you miss, your opponent may appreciate your efforts.
