Anyone ever heard of this game or know how it's played? Heard about it in the Patcheye interview on onepocket.org and I'm curious.

Not sure if its the same game, but there used to be one where you start with a 15 ball stack, safety break like 14.1. From there you can pocket any ball in any pocket, but the one ball is the cheese, and it has to go in a side pocket.

I cant remember all of the specifics, so does this sound at all familiar?

One-ball One-pocket. Game starts with (1) object ball frozen on center diamond on end rail. First person to make a ball in their hole wins. SVB played Chris Gentile at Tunica in '12. They played for a dime a game. SVB won $17,000.

This^^^. One ball one pcket, GREAT GAMBLING GAME!!!!! As described above, however the first shot can not be a cut shot into your pocket. The breaker could out CB anywhere behind the line to break, but as I said a cut shot was not allowed but a four rail opening bank was if you dared to try. A scratch resulted in balls spotted. It was a very fun gambling game, it gave people that had absolutely no chance playing someone regular one pocket a chance to compete with just about anyone on a level playing field ( for the most part lol ) Seen it played from a dollar on up to couple humdred, sometimes more.

object ball frozen to the middle diamond of the foot rail
shooter gets cue ball behind the line in the kitchen ball in hand
shooter can not make the ball
cut shot /4 railer whatever
must play safe
go from there

They play it every yr at the XBO its not a game you want to jump right in on there's some real good players there that play this game real good

The only way I've seen One-ball One-pocket played....

Object ball froze to middle diamond of end rail
Cue ball froze to middle diamond of other end rail
The break.....must kick from side rail

Loved playing this in the 60's. Played OneBall in the corner or side or back pocket
Could handicap front and back to a front. Call any ball any pocket and keep shooting. Game is over when the 1ball is pocketed in your pocket. Must call the shot. Can shoot it anytime. 3 scratches is a loss. When the 1 ball is bare 3 shots each and the game is a bust. No winner.
Not the game that is talked about on 1P.org. Guess that should be called 1Ball 1Pocket

Glad to see Im not the only one who still remembers it. :o

This new game sounds to me like some good end game players came up with a gaff game to hustle cough cough, I mean gamble on.

The break looked like this. When breaking from whatever side, put the cue ball close to head string about 3 inches out right on diamond. Hit OB That was frozen on middle of foot rail and try to leave it right by the side pocket, leaving cue ball around first diamond on opposite rail.

Quite the opposite imho. I think it levels the playing field. Someone who might be very proficient at shot making but not schooled on one pocket theory could compete with the best of one pocket players that otherwise they would stand no chance. Good gamble like I said.

The above described game is NOT what i watched SVB and Gentile play. Never heard of any game like that. I'm talking about ONE-POCKET with ONE ball. No call any pocket, 3 scratch .Have NO clue what game you are describing.

The game of "one ball" is what he was describing. Its an old game along the same era of kelly pool and 61 point rotation. There are several games on a pool table that nobody plays anymore.

I still have a couple guys that only play the full rack 1ball in side game. They do call it oneball.

The game patch was referring to is know around here as"bare ball" or "one ball" to some. , one ball one pocket is just a variation.
Considered a "pocket game" .
Always starts with just one object ball on the table and each playet has a pocket....or pocketS....that they shoot for.
Starting positions vary, rules vary.
As was mentioned, its a great gambling game as theres so many ways to handicap it. I see alot of variations, usually its "even back"..",front to a back"
Ect.
You could write a book on the playing strategy moves and handicapping of the game.
And patcheye is still around, see him everyday.

There was nothing like playing OneBall for a buck a game at the Cue and Cushion Roosevelt Mall.... mid to late 60's on a Sat afternoon with some regulars.

I enjoyed playing this with Doc Frye. Did not enjoy playing with houseman Walt. Walt was good. Hated racking and listening to his chirping...J/K.
