One more picture of my amboyna Callaluca cue before completion. Leather choice?

I have posted a few pictures of my amboyna Callaluca cue in progress. Here are the last couple I will post before the finished product is shown. One is the cue with my leather choice and the other is a sample with finish. The reason I did this is I wanted everyone's thought on the leather choice. I think it will look nice.

The leather wrap is competing with the burl's beauty.

Judging from the way the burl's color would come out from the second picture, you would have a red handle with a red butt sleeve. IMHO I would go with a less attractive (darker ???) leather to highlight the burls beauty.

I had similar thoughts. I just am not sure of the perfect choice. I have used black so many times, I was going to try something different.

When the finish is put on, the aboyna will brighter up considerably and the leather wrap that is shown may be a good compliment to the cue. I think I would wait to see what the final cue looks like and then either match or contrast the cue with the leather wrap.
But I may be leaning toward a darker shade on the leather as well.

Hi Myron,
install a black Lizzard Wrap it's the best Choice to Amboyna Burl.I have a super Mc Daniel Peacock Style with a Amboyna Burl Butt same you and this looks great ;-)

Hey Jimmy, I was at Joe C's last night picking out a wrap for my new cue. After placing about 20 wraps on my cue I ended up going with black leather!
Choosing a wrap from pictures is difficult but I think it would be easier if the cue had finish on it. My feeling is that if the colors in the cue and wrap are close, it looks like you tried to match them up and goofed. The colors have to be right on or a good contrast. Wraps aside, we both have real nice cues coming from Joe C.

I agree....would probably go dark brown or black myself. With the lighter reddish wrap it's pretty close and you may lose some of the burl's beauty, which you want to make stand out.

I love this piece of leather. I was hoping when I got it, it would be a great fit. But I agree with you guys. The colors are just too close. I don't want to take away from the beautiful grain in this wood. So I probably will go with the good ole black.

The best feeling stuff I ever had my hands on, was on a Tascarella. Absolutely felt like silk. Super smooth and soft. It was a medium brown in color. I think it might the same stuff Fast_n_loose was speaking of.

Fast_n_loose, is this goat skin?

PETE DOES A VARIATION OF LEATHERS. THE SOFTEST IS THE KIDSKIN, THEN YOU HAVE ANTIQUED LEATHER WHICH IS FREAKIN AWESOME. (MY FAVORITE) SO I CAN'T TELL YOU WHICH ONE YOU HAD. HE ALSO DOES LOTS OF TEXTURED LEATHERS AS WELL.

thanks for the response. I would bet anything that it was kidskin. No doubt someday I want to pick up one of Pete's cue installed with this stuff. It felt sweeeeet...............

jim, i still have that smooth black leather you sent me for the hercek, it's yours if you want it for the callaluca. i'm keeping the hercek original for now.

I think I want to go with something softer and not quite as shiny. Since I plan on this cue being my player, I am going strictly for feel. Do you have any idea if Joe has something similar to what I am talking about? :rolleyes:

The cue looks really nice. The rings, points, etc. create seperation between the amboyna and and leather. On my cue I'm not sure that just the rings would be enough.

Jimmy, Joe has exactly what you are looking for. He had two pieces and I picked one of them for my cue so he has one left. The leather is not as shiny and softer than the piece Guy is talking about.
