I'm sure this is an old question but what are standard handicaps in 1pkt.?
I started playing pool a few years ago and was introduced to 1pkt. about a year ago. For sure my favorite game. The fellow who is teaching me always gives me the breaks. When we started the handicap was 10-4 and now I've whittled him down to 8-5. Is the next 8--6, or 9-6, or...... I'm tempted to leave the line where it is and just get the break in first game and then play winner breaks but if I did that I'd probably be back to 10-4 in a hurry. Also we play that the change in handicap occurs when one of us has won two in a row and in our last session I won the last two hence my question. Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks eales

I had a feeling that going to 1pkt.org was the answer, guess I was being lazy. Much appreciated link right to listed handicaps.

No apologies necessary Oneinarow. Is that an indian name?
Check out the One Pocket Forum. There's a bunch of great guys there, myself included, who are glad to help aspiring OP players.
For the time being, practice safties and try to leave whitey on, or near a rail at the end of your inning. You'll be playing straight-up with the guy before you know it.

If you're beating him pretty regularly at 8-5, then next you'd go to 11-7 or 9-6. It really depends upon your ability (and his) to run balls. If you're better at moving than running, then 9-6 would be better for you.

Interesting Doc

I had not thought about the weight that way sir!! Intriguing to look at the spot in the sense of jumping multiple balls for each player to even the spread. Ball runner or mover? Well I started 1pkt thinking I could run a few shots but when you add the pressure of staying safe, leaving no banks or easy sweepers I suddenly couldn't run "OneinaRow". It took a lot of embarrassing mistakes to realize I should think about sticking whitey to the rail and moving balls to my side, not always making balls ( although I'm always hearing gotta make the makeable shots) Now I shoot both, trying to be patient for a "safe" opening to run some balls. What a great game. Thanks for the input Doc and eales, much appreciated

Had a great session

Thanks to eales, Doc and Steamer, the chart on handicaps was very helpful and the thoughtful words were appreciated. My opponent and I played 4 games today (3 hours) with our new 9-6 handicap and came out even. I admit I concentrated more on my shots, thinking of staying safe on every shot and that helped a lot. Much FUN had by all. Love this game:smile:

"Well Doc, eales, it looks like our work here is done. Quick, to the idiot-mobile."

As our intrepid trio motor off into the sunset, what other deeds of daring-do await this handsome, yet uncommonly shy band of merry-men known only as the Onepocketeers. Stay tuned boys and girls.

Ha

LOL, very cute rhyme STEAMSTER. When more trouble rears its ugly head I shall shine the "Onepocketeer" signal and await your superhero advice
