One Pocket layout help

I'm a pretty nitty player and I just can't see not going for the out here unless I knew the table was playing bad on my side.

The idea behind your shot is good, take his ball out, go for yours... however even if you do take his ball out, and get the cue-ball to stay up on the table (not easy), if you don't pocket your ball you are leaving him a pretty easy out needing 2 balls with an easy bank and a ball by his hole.

Aarons shot is another good thought but I feel like you're selling out a bank (and the game), again, way too often here.

IMO this is the ideal situation for shooting at your hole. The 3 is a hanger :)
 
I love the tickie, thanks for the info.

I played the shot in the pool hall last night, 5 shots and 5 successfull attempts to pocket his ball and move the 10 into strong position. I think I only gave up a bank once. I was surprised how easy it was to play this shot. It looks much more difficult to execute than it really is.

You have to remember that I was playing against a guy giving 9-6 and I probably could have spotted him more. He was probably 1/5 to make an easy bank. If I am playing a strong player/mover of course I shoot and gamble to win right there. Also if you think the 3 is a hanger on 4 and a quarter inch pockets, I will take the 5. :D
