One pocket players and the IPT...

I put this on the one-pocket fourms about a week or two ago, but I haven't had any replies at all. I don't know if I asked the wrong thing or what, but I wouldn't think it'd be a disrespectful type of question. Then again, what do I know. :( The IPT is the biggest thing in pool right now, so I figured that this question would be perfect for that forum. (sigh...) Well, if you all don't mind, I'd really like to get some replies to this topic below:

Ok. I have no idea how relevant this is to the one-pocket forums, but I was thinking, can't a lot of really good one-pocket players play on this tour and win? I mean, even as a novince one-pocket player, I know that your 8-ball can benifit immensely from playing one-pocket. Yeah, I know it's slow nap and that he has some interesting rules, but a lot of the players from back in the day played on slow nap because that's all there was back then. So, would any of you guys try out for this tour?

Thanks in advance people. :)

But Marissa, there are a LOT of old school players that played on slow nap, so it's kind of irrelevant. The main question is, would one-pocket players be successful in the IPT?

It really depends. As someone who plays nine-ball, I'm not used to playing eight-ball and would have more difficulty than someone who regularly plays the game. I think the same would apply to those who play one-pocket or straight pool.

Not necessarily. One-Pocket and straight pool, if you were to play these games, would really help out with other pool games. Before I played 8-ball in the leagues, I liked one-pocket and LOVE 9-ball! One-pocket would really help out my 9-ball game...A LOT! On the CCB forums, when LJJ did her online chat, she said that she played a lot of straight pool to get ready for the match against Mike. So, in a way, that might be true, but I honestly feel that these two games will help you excel in all other pool games.

I play straight pool more than nine-ball but I never applied it to eight-ball. I've tried playing eight-ball and really don't like it.

Ok. Point well taken. Thanks for the replies though. I honestly don't know why no one else finds this topic interesting enough to reply too. There are a lot of people, especially the old school cats, who can dominate at one-pocket or straight pool and will be VERY successful on the tour!!!

Hell, Buddy Hall and Nick Varner, are two of many who plan to take Mike and LJJ on in the IPT. Plus, there are going to be tons of no-namers out there who can give these people fits on the table as well! Hell, even Efren is a beast at one-pocket, plus he's from the old school as well and I can't wait to see if he'll join the IPT!

Thanks Marissa, for the chat. I think a lot of people will be suprised to see what some of these guys and gals background in pool will be. I think you'll be seeing a lot of players who are a beast at 14.1 and one-pocket in the IPT next year that'll dominate the tour. And as much as I love the game, just being good at 9-ball isn't going to cut it next year...IMHO.
