Has anyone ever seen "Squirrel" Carpenter play one pocket? He used to travel around and play mostly in the 60s and 70s. Got to meet him a few months ago in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I don't think he plays much anymore, but he was a well known one pocket player in his prime.

"Squirrel" Carpenter

I dont know him personally but i have a friend that is very close to the Squirrel, and from what i understand he doesnt play all that much anymore. he has (or had, not 100% sure if its still there but i am pretty sure it is) a poolhall in Mobile AL.

There was a guy they called Squirrel around VA about 10-15 years ago. Don't know if it's the same guy, but her was reputed to be a 'player'.

I was in Texas last year, and a player down there told me that "Squirrel" did have a room in Mobile, AL, and that there was a table specifically for one pocket in that room that had only two pockets on it -- the rest just rails.

I imagine that it would be a pretty different game.

You can probably play a bit more offense on a table like that. I heard there used to be quite a few of those around. I've never seen one.

It doesn't sound like you know the name, Pigy. The Tuscaloosa Squirrel is one of the best one pocket players to play the game.

He won the 1962 Johnston City One Pocket Division, and learned the game from Rags Fitzpatrick and Fats. He is one of the six co-authors of the Eddie Robin book, "Shots, Moves & Strategies".

I'm pretty sure that he's 71 or 72 now.

Squirrel has always been a crafty old guy when it comes to pool. He was already a one-pocket legend the first time I heard his name. :)
