For the "OVER THE HILL" gang. How about the top ten, all time.

My over the hill gang aren't champs anymore

1. Ronnie Allen
2. Jack 'Jersey Red' Breit (how can he be left out?)
3. Eddy Taylor
4. Grady
5. Johnny Ervelino
6. Bugs
7. Steve Cook
8. Bill Staton

Sleepers
9. Fats - one pocket was his best game
10. Greg Stevens

As everyone knows BEST is relative. But I have to agree with GoldenBoy about one thing. I should have included "The Freight Train" Greg Stevens. Jersey Red was a great player also but did you ever see him play on his own money? His game dropped a ball and a half.

Being able to bet your own is a redeemable trait. It doesn't matter who put him in the box he is still the 2nd best one pocket player ever.

This may draw laughter, GS may not be the best player ever, but his best was better than the rest!

No truer statment was ever made. Freight Train's best was better than any. He is similar to Andy Oguine, "misspelled I know". Andy beat Buddy Hall when Buddy was at his best and yet Bill Stack and I went broke staking Andy to play, get this, Scotty Townsend.

IMO, the 10 best today:

1. Efren
2. Joyner
3. Parica
4. Shannon
5. Varner
6. Larry Nevel
7. Buddy
8. Scott Frost
9. Bustamante
10. Santos

Honorable mention goes to Alex Pagulayan, Schmidt, Walden, Richie Rich, Jeremy, Corey, Gabe, and Danny Medina.

Let's face it, there are many who can and did play one hole. I don't think it's fair rank them at this time. In a tournament, yes, you can see who did and who didn't do well.

In my opinion, An over all ranking can only be done when there has been a string of several tournaments [ a track record] in a row or have at least a 10 tournament run to see who did best in that year. I am sure that there are several more folks who can play that are not on the "list"... Some more great players, Jersey Red, , Craig Stevens, Danny DeLibreto, Grady Mathews and many, many more could be added to the all time great list.. It was great to watch these and many other greats, in action back in the 60's thru the 90's and even today.

One thing for sure, it's a great game to play and watch.

We all have a favorite and some folks will disagree, but that's life. Opinions, makes it all come together. So who was or is the best??????My favorite was or is -----------------------. This way no one gets offended.

Very true.

Noone is getting offended, but I get a bit confused when Busta and Corey are included in a one pocket list. From what I have seen, Corey is a more dangerous player, b/c you have no idea what he will do. Bustamante does not try to move balls, does not try to trap, does not shoot at anything...all traits of good one hole?

Greg Stevens

Just for the record Blud, Golden Boy and I did mention Greg Stevens, and it is Greg not "Craig", Craig is the actor. Also Jersey Red.

That's why, just like Blud said, its hard to rank todays player. You don't have the lengthy history to look at like you do with the all time greats.
