one pocket question

I just started playing one pocket. I saw it on a few of the galveston streams and I saw a few people play up in lubbock. There is a guy in town that plays it real good. He beats me mostly because he is one hell of a nine ball player. I have heard that with good strategy, even a good shot maker can be beat. I would like some pointers on strategy.

Also, does the corner pocket you pick matter? I'm right handed and pretty short. I would figure it does. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Thanks in advance!

Not that you won't find great advice here, but check out onepocket.org if you have'nt yet. Slower moving site, but dedicated to the game. Forums there as well. Good site imo.
Peace.

Sandmann187...While it is true that an expert 1-hole player will often beat a good 9-ball player (unless it's someone who also plays 1-pocket), the best thing for you is to take a lesson from someone is a expert at one pocket. Make sure you have a repeatable stroke first...otherwise you won't be able to do what the one pocket player can teach you (you might not be able to anyway). Being a good one pocket player is a lot about knowing when to shoot at your hole, and when to play safe (good 1-hole players may play safe 10x each, back and forth, until somebody makes an error). It doesn't matter which pocket you pick. One Pocket is an alternate break game, so you have to learn to play both end pockets. Being short and/or right-handed doesn't really matter much. The suggestion of going to onepocket.org is a good one. Here's one solid tip...usually, on a safe, you try to leave your CB frozen on the short rail (behind the rack), at the middle diamond. Hope this helps!
