One Pocket Situation: What do you do here?

I'm not much of a one-pocket player, but it seems like a makeable and effective safety to me.

Andrew,
This isn't bad unless you don't hit it PERFECT. Otherwise your opponent will have a bank back or 2-rail for free. Nice idea...I didn't see it...but risky.

If you're playing Shannon you're not going to be out-moving him, you have to get as aggressive as you can. Taking that push (foul) safe isn't a good option IMO because now you need 3, he needs one, one ball is loose, and two don't go -- he is in a DOMINANT position from here.
Nick B's suggestion is good if the balls are lined up as such, and while you don't need to do exactly what Nick suggests that's the general idea -- open up the balls and don't leave him an easy return. I see some people advising a shot that leaves an easy two railer.... you really shouldn't be giving advice if you're posting that.

This is a tough spot, and even with Nicks suggestion you're far from out of trouble, Cannon will start making some little dink shots and out think you. Keep on the aggressive against an opponent who out thinks you in this game, the more shots that are progressive the better... you try and play that tit for tat game with a better player and you won't have much of a bankroll to fire after long.

Okay, I'm not a 1-hole player so forgive me here. This is probably what I would try. Is this a mistake? I figure, if I make the 12, I won't leave anything when it gets respotted and the long bank is no hanger.

I think this would be a mistake Jude, you would be leaving him an open bank at his pocket, even if he doesn't make it, you're allowing him to position a ball near his pocket.

Really in this position, you have to play something specatcular and hope he makes a monumental error. I peg your chances of winning at this point in the match at less than %20.

Why can't everyone think like that? lol.

Sorry, my diagram isn't exactly precise. My intent is to send the 12-ball in that direction, not necessarily for it to settle RIGHT THERE. I'm looking to potentially pocket the 12 or leave it on the rail but most importantly, leave the cueball near the end-rail.

Honestly, I'm not a one-pocket player so I'm just asking for opinions.

You leave it just about any where up there and you're leaving a bank..... you're also leaving a bank on the 11. It's just a bad shot. That's my opinion. Just think of something else.

(edit: I've read your other posts, I'd imagine you can play a ton, I'm just trying to help you out in this game).

Yeah, I don't play 1-pocket but trying to participate in this discussion. In 9-ball, leaving a long bank is never a bad play which is how I'm thinking but then again, in 9-ball, such a miss would be far more devastating.

You are a good player who has started playing one pocket. All the sudden you are playing Shannon the Canon in a big tournament. In this game he needs one, and you need two. What would be a good shot here?

This one is a hanger, and I can always use my buy-back option..:
Shoot the white ball into the short rail, hit the 12, 11 banks into the long rail and in my pocket, and - the 12 ball caroms of the 11 ball and goes in too! Game over.

Oh, and did I mention that in 10 days I am going to Manila to challenge Efren in some 1p?:D

I actually like this shot IF and that's a big IF you can execute it properly. If you even nick the 11 ball you will totally sell out, if you don't freeze the CB you sell out the 11 ball, if you draw back to far you sell out, in fact with this shot you have 100 ways to sell out and only one way to execute it properly.

But I still like it. Why? because you're behind in the ball count and should be the aggressor and this moves a ball close to your hole and maybe if you get super lucky it'll go in.

I think a one-holer would bank the 11 here instead of the 12 to avoid leaving you a return bank with the 11.

Hi:

Thank you all for sharing your ideas. I myself like nick's idea of send the balls to my side. The speed control is very important here.

Shannon is hell of a player to see up close. He can bank balls with all kinds of twister english and different levels of power.
