one pocket strategy online

unfortunately, it seems that there's a lack of much one pocket discussion online...i've just started playing the game (few months) and love it...i've got the group of old school guys to teach me, i'm getting a book or two from Eddie Robin's, but i'd still love to soak up what I can from the net...anyone know of any forums, sites, etc that are one pocket specific?

i don't, but grady mathuews who is a one pocket champion, who posts here, will give you all the info, you'd ever want to know.

good point. i've seen a surprisingly large amount of well known players posting here. very cool.

ok, so there're some shots i know how to hit, i just need to practice...and others that i'm still trying to figure out....i hit a full table double bank last night with some low right and nailed it.....am i correct in believing that, if you want to double bank to a pocket towards your left, and the ball is lined up straight to the rail, you'll want that low outside english?

also, two rail banks...i'm getting a good feel for the location and speed..but sometimes i feel like they'd go in more often with the correct english....any advice?

i've setup the some shots:

START(
%AS4P7%Bg7I4%ER5X8%Pg7Q2%Q]6_1%Ug6K2%Vg7P7%WZ3Q1%Xf0Q1%YT9X4
%Ze5R4%eB4a6
)END

lower left on the 2? (hit slightly on left soft-medium speed)

lower right on the 1? (hit straight, medium-hard speed)

slightly low and straight on the 5? (hit straight, medium speed)

any advice on how to fix whatever i'm saying/doing incorrectly here?

thanks!

While assuming your pocket is the lower right, your execution sounds about right. However, if this were an actual game, any of those shots is dangerous if you miss. One pocket (like bankpool) is all about taking care of the rock.....meaning not giving your opponent even a hint of a shot. If you were to shoot the two (as diagrammed) and miss, it would most likely give the other guy an easy bank on the one or even the five. I would most likely attempt the one ball with the stroke to leave as close to your opponents pocket as possible. I am by NO means a great one-holer, but I have seen MANY matches won by almost excruciating slooooow, saaaafe play. Hope it helps, and take it for what it's worth.
Peace,
David

when attempting a double bank, your best off useing zero english and adjusting your speed accordingly. when attempting a triple bank, use english, right, if your banking left of the side pocket.

Which is your pocket? Maybe you could add the lines in the WEI to show what you are trying to do...

Buy 1-pocket videos from accustats. They are the best way to learn the game, bar none. The tapes will pay for themselves in no time with winnings.

I like the book entitled WINNING ONE POCKET. It sure helped along with actual play. The game seems to emphasize more bank shots.

I got a battered copy of Winning One Pocket and I can now see shots I've never noticed. I can't make them to save my life. My game, lately, seems to have dropped off big time. It was never anywhere impressive to begin with, but when I've played in the last week or so I miss banks by a diamond and can't stroke to save my life. But I certainly see the shots, haha.

...could be the table your're playing on. I can't bank worth a **** on Diamond tables. Gold Crowns, now that's a different story.

tapes, books, and sites

I've heard of the accustat tapes...sounds like i need to get some...

I'm getting a copy of shots, moves, and strategies, but can't afford a winning one pocket copy just yet...need to play this guy from last night again and build up some cash...

So it seems that they're aren't really any specific one pocket forums or sites...

i know there are a lot of typical shots...perhaps if people diagrammed out one of their favorite shots i could see some of the more advanced concepts?

here's one i'm starting to get down fairly well...

START(
%Ah7I7%CK0^7%GL9^8%IL7^9%KK8]6%NI9^9%Pn6J8%Rq2Y2%UN0C3%Vh2I7
%WD7F6%XM2C1%Yp5Z5%ZC6G0
)END

took a while but i'm getting the feel for it....how about some other standard one pocket shots?
