One Pocket

Hey Shawn,

I am a decent nine ball player and have played for years. I have just taken up one pocket, gambling my first match at it last week. I know you primarily as a nine-baller but I know you play one pocket very well.

Besides the fact that I should just gamble and get my feet wet to learn the game, do you have any advice to get my one pocket game to a competent level any more quickly?

Did you practice shots that come up alot, banks, or any other specific area of the game when you first started to play.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mike,
The most imortant aspects of the game is patience.
When decideing to take a flyer, never sell out more balls than you can make.
When your trapped don't be afraid to leave your opponent long and straight in . If he shoots at it he may sell out the game if he misses it. If he passes it it'll drive him nuts wandering if he could have made it or not.
When he sells out a easy shot to you, don't be afraid to make the ball and go up table and start your run from there. this is how top pros run big numbers.

The most important move you have to have in your game is the INTENSIONAL FOUL . If he puts you in your hole and you have some balls there, and he has none in his, you don't want to get rid of those balls just to get out of a safety , roll the cueball into the back of the stack and let him deal with it.
It's always beter to take an intensional foul and lose 1 than lose the game because you didn't know what to do or took a stupid shot.
If your a good 9-ball player, making up that one ball shouldn't be a problem for you. Let me know how it turns out for you?

Shawn,

Thanks for the advise. I was gonna give you a call, but wasn't sure what a good time would be. I'll PM you if you don't mind, and maybe we can set up a time.

Thanks for the input.
