My Dad has always been the inspiration in my game and business. He's been my mentor since I was a kid. He started playing pool when he was 19 in the Navy and he's 67 this year. Shooting for shape and using English are second nature to him. Yesterday he proposed an idea to me that I'm sharing with you.
Whether you're playing 8 ball or 9 ball, you get one shot per turn whether you make a ball or not. You aren't playing shape for your next shot, but avoiding giving your opponent a shot. This is basically how he plays now, making a couple shots and intentionally missing the next. He says running the table over and over is like playing alone or practice, boring. He shoots to enjoy the game.
Try it and tell me how it works for you.

Sounds a lot like playing Killer.

It is like Killer. It's also like some spots in games where the spot giver can only shoot a certain number of balls in and then has to play safe. That's a gaff game.

Sounds like something kind of fun though at least for practice. Not in nine ball though since making a ball obligates you to keep shooting. Well in eight ball too. :-)
