Opinion on new custom cues

I'm just guessing here, not knowing the OP from adam, but just judging by his chosen AZ name (@peace), he may just not be the type to knock on this cue makers door w/ a flame thrower like some of us might have been. (again just guessing here) Calmer heads almost always prevail, let's see if his does in this case. I wish you luck with getting this settled, hopefully it goes as smooth as possible. I'd like to give the maker the benefit of the doubt, but that cue had to be finished, how many looks at it could they have had and not noticed?

Well the cue maker did agree to give a refund.
His explanation for the inlays was that I requested a Ivory substitute and what he used(some kind of plastic?) was hard to work with.
My advice to him was to not use a material that could not be installed properly!
These were not cues that were already started so I too thought it might be a rush job considering what the normal wait times to be for custom cues.
Anyway thanks everyone for your help, I emailed him a link to this thread so he could see what everyone thought about his work, maybe he will be more careful with future projects.

I'm going to start from scratch and find someone else to build my cues.

Peace

Glad it worked out for you and your getting a refund.

I ordered a Gilbert this past Saturday. I met up with Jeff at www.cueaddicts.com to give him the final plans and get a price on it.

I hit right on my budget at $1500 I could have been under but I am getting a leather wrap and it's going to be a ebony cue so that adds a little to the price because he cores the ebony out to keep the weight down.

um... thats a pretty bad excuse IMO. How many ivory substitute inlays have I seen? Maybe thousands... don't recall seeing any customs with the substitute look like that though. Like you "sort of" said, why would you even agree to building something that could not be done properly. Disappointing and scary to think somebody could have overlooked this.

With that said, very glad your getting your money back. Good luck with your next one!
