Would you take advice from someone who can not beat you nor has had any achievements in your sport? Thanks:D

Not only would I, but I do. A person's level of play is dependent on the number of hours they put in, or their God given talent, but that has no bearing on how much knowledge they have. Here are some examples from other sports:

Bill Parcells (Dallas Cowboys)
Jeff Gundy (Houston Rockets, NY Knicks)
Angelo Dundee (Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard)

On the other hand, great players can also be terrible coaches (Isiah Thomas/NY Knicks).

Hope this helps!

Also, another example that Nnifer failed to mention, but I'm sure it was only accidental... she takes advice from me, and I not only could not beat her, but I have no achievements. Oh, in pool. (:

ha ha.

p.s. no need to correct me, just play along Jenn!

I see your point. I got one more question. If Karen Corr told you too keep your chin as close to the cue as possible would you be more inticed to do so as say if the bca instructor told you the same thing? Just speculating.

I don't think all advice works for all people. I will usually try out any advice that seems to make sense (regardless of source) and see how it works for me, especially when it comes to mechanics. In the end it's you that has to decide how you feel most comfortable.

Thanks for your opinion.=) Have a Merry Christmas.:D

This was fun to share!

If you are a better player, are you so arrogant that you know all there is to know? Of course not. Maybe the player that can't beat you, does read more about pool and just hasn't gotten the time to catch up to you in performance. I showed a guy who beats me regularly (he spots me 9-7 and the breaks) in one pocket, how to know when the double kiss happens naturally in cross over banks. As good as he is at them, he did not know there were 2 simple rules to know when this occurs. He was so thrilled with this little tid bit of knowledge, he spent the next hour, showing me things to improve my 1 pocket game.

He knew he was better than I am, but yet he knew, as I do, that there is always more to learn. I like watching bangers play sometimes. You'll see them hit some crazy wild shot, but it goes in. Just because they didn't mean to make, DOES NOT mean there isn't a shot or something to be learned by it. If you go run to your table and try that crazy thing, you just might add a little something new to your arsenal. ;) Think about it.

Funny, how your reply almost sounds like you have already decided you won't learn from a, "rookie." Sorry to invade on your post. When you choose the new option in the top bar, you don't always notice which catagory it comes out of. My bad.

Efren Reyes has stated this almost verbatim. He has said he likes watching less experienced players play because they will come with some very inventive shots.

Perhaps that is where he picked up some of his inventive shots. Goodness knows he is the king of those.

Hopefully cdavis9771 does not object to this post because after all I am just a dumb league player from Ohio

:p :p :p :p :p

Hey Donavan, YOU NAILED IT IN YOUR POST! Hey Davis I really hope that you were being sarcastic in your post. I mean, how can you not see the irony in this. So, in other words, a pro has already stated that you ABSOLUTELY CAN learn from a player who may not play as well as you, but you are above listening to anyone who is not a pro ( who incedently strikes me as a more knowledgeable, and most likely more skilled player). Chances are, if you are closed to the idea of someone ( even a weaker player) knowing something that you do not, you just will not progress in this game. There are so many aspects to this game, you will not learn all of them on your own. Sometimes someone will discuss something I do happen to already know, but they explain it in a way that makes more sense, or just really clarifies it and makes it easier to put into practice.

I like Jennifers response to the question. I am originally from Chicago and have stated in the past that Michael Jordan listens to Phil Jackson, but could run circles around him on the court. Teaching is a skill separate from the skill that is being taught. The best players are not always the best teachers. In fact the opposite is often true. If a player has a real natural talant, sometimes they cannot relate to a beginner who is struggling with an aspect of the game. They can perform a task perfectly everytime, but cannot show you how to adjust to achieve the same result.

Just a thought, you shouldn't be critical of someone who is trying to help you out. I do not think that ANYONE is above learning something new about this game. I dare you to show me ONE person who knows absolutely everything that there is to know about this game. To me, that is the whole appeal. You never just wake up one day and say "okay, I have finally learned everyhting there is about pool". The day you think you are above learning ( from any source) is the day you stop improving.
