opinions on cue components when I get my custom made?

yeah I went to his website and I was impressed. Its going to be a tough decision as to who I want to build this cue. I guess Ill have to just call them all and see who i feel like is talking my language. Bear has some nice stuff, so does murry and jensen, not to mention the hundreds of other custom cue makers out there. Thanks everybody for their input.....feel free to continue, im slowly getting the cue i want assembled in my head, i have another post on wood types going right now too, seems bocote and snakewood are getting some votes, although I really like the look of rosewood.

Scotty,

Not to rain on your parade or discourage you, but I believe Murray Tucker doesn't take orders anymore. Shame too, he makes some stellar looking cues!

Whoever is voting for snakewood in a full splice cue is voting for trouble.

yes i emailed murry....youre right, hes not taking orders right now, but im hoping in 4 or 5 months when im ready maybe he will be back taking orders again.

as far as snakewood, I did hear some things about it being so hard that its brittle and can shatter.....which has me concerned if thats true

Since you are looking for a full splice cue and there aren't that many cue makers out there that build full splice cues. I suggest you locate a cue maker or parts maker and have them build you the full splice blank to your specifications, (ie. ebony, curly maple, birdseye maple, bacote, bubinga, cocabola, etc.) Then send that full splice to a cue maker of your choice to do the inlays, wrap, joint, butt cap, shaft, etc. You could even purchase 314 or Z shaft blanks by Predator and have them custom fit to your cue. It seems like you have time to get this cue completed, might as well take the time to get the exact parts you want this cue made of.

I would think that the cuemaker who built the full splice blank would also be qualified to complete the remainder of the work. Just my opinion.

I know that full splice (house cues are full splice) cues are so cheap because they are the easiest to make. They are also more prone to warpage than properly make short splice cues. You get what you pay for usually.

I don't know, Joel Hercek get's a nice price for his full splice cues and he seems to think that it is a much stronger splice than the shorties. I guess it depends on how good the person is at doing a full splice?!
