Opinions on joint collar

I have a solid Ivory joint and a SS joint. These are not collars and both provide a unique hit. The Ivory joint cue of course hits a little softer and provides more feedback. The SS joint cue offers a solid hit although I don't know any other way to describe it. I just know I like the hit of both cues.

With that said, I have noticed many cuemakers now using joint collars to provide an asethic look of either a Ivory joint or SS joint, but seem to still be wood to wood. Are they changing the hit of the cue or are we to assume that these cues would hit like any other wood to wood jointed cue from the maker?

Blud,

I just read you comments under the Ivory Joint section after I posted this question.

Thanks,

I hope you understood what I was saying. Wood to wood is a real wooden joint with no collars or rings what so ever.

how's this for a wood to wood joint? this is the joint on helmstetter/carl conlon special pool cues vs. their billiard cues.

That's a wood pin but the collars still has phenolic/plastics.
Wood to wood to me means, no collars to me.

sure is

my bad, the subject is joint collars, not joints. the ccs cues hit real nice in any case.

I have a cue that has an ebony collar for the joint and shaft, no phenolic, with a 3/8-10 flat face - where would this fall under?

Hadj,

Wood and wood to wood and wood??? With a metal cherry on top???

:D

Thanks,

Jon
