not much response on the main forum, so i try it here. how is the hit of these cues? how much deflection against other brands...
tell me as much as possible.
thanks!

I have only tried a few and thought the hit was hard (solid), but very nice and responsive. As I remember, the shafts were stiff...

I certainly would like to own one in the future.

i had one once, i bought it from bobby hunter in about 89 or 90 for $1600 it was a 4pt cue with a good amount of inlays etc in the butt, nice looking cue, shafts were stiff because of the taper, the workmanship was great, points all even, inlays etc. problem was the butt diameter was huge, i played with it before I bought it, i was playing with a SW at the time and the stiff hit was cool, I thought I could get used to the cue but never could, it was just too fat-I adjust to cues quickly more often than not, this cue was built in about 86 or 87. I loaned it to a friend who is a very good player and he couldnt play with it either, nobody could, I ended up trading it for a couple Ginacues(great deal for me). I dont know if the fatt butt was a special order-it must have been because the other joss west cues i've had 4-5 of them-plane janes were normal.

I am the exact opposite to the last post. I have two SW. One Jerry, and one current. I still think those SW play a little too stiff for my play. Don't get me wrong....SW are good and solid hitting cues.....but compare to my JWs, SouthWest cues hits a lot more stiffer than the JWs. Here is another catch too.....the old JW cues are made with 5/16x14 ACME pins. I think all cues after 96 have Radial Pins as standard. Now, if you take a two cues from the same maker and one had 5/16x14 and one had Radial, you can tell immediately the different feel of the hit. I own both and I feel that the Radial JW gives lot more action than the piloted steel joint.

I love Bill Stroud's work. He will stop making cues soon. Maybe that is why you don't see much being thrown around in the sale section of the forum. The ones I have seen for sale are really old ones....like 80s and earlier. Here is a good link to pics: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=62087

I hope this help.
