Wandering through the threads one finds recurring themes:

Existing pool halls catering to the unwashed mob who don't know how to play and have no interest in learning
Shortage of competition
Pool players, like bowlers, rely on commercial operators.
I belong to several non-pool clubs. All are run by volunteers (some have minimum hours a member must contribute each year), and, if large amounts of capital are required, members buy debentures.
Why don't pool players take the same approach?
There must be many areas in the U.S. where suitable real estate is available from mortgage holders who would be pathetically grateful for a group actually willing to buy for cash.
Such clubs would be a more attractive to potential players, and have been used by sailing, golf and curling to vastly increase the popularity and accessibility of these sports.
Not all pool players live in their cars, and for many a private club would be a lower cost, more attractive alternative to commercial pool halls, or so it would seem to me
