originality vs ugly

Hi, great forum here! I just got a 1960ish 9ft Sportking free. I have been stalking craigslist forever for a GC but this fell in my lap. I plan on simonis 860 and tightening the pockets. But the original sides are ugly yellow brown. the top rails are nice mahagony veneer. I am thinking about veneering the sides to match and painting the frame and legs black (dog doo brown now). Will this be a mistake for resale value? Has anybody done this that regreted it? I might still get a gc but if this plays well I will keep her.thanks for any replies as this is my first post and I couldnt find anything on a search.

Here is link on our own board to pix of both an original table
and one upgraded similar to what you mentioned.

If the table is sound it should play very much like an Aniversary - the
frame is less massive, but not enough so to be a problem, in my experience.

In my much less than humble opinion - that would mean significantly better than a Gold Crown. FWIW - I still like GCs

Go for it

If it plays solid whats the difference? I believe that the few I've tried out do play solid. Paint it up and enjoy it. Get good cloth like you stated, if it plays good buy quality Brunswick Centennials balls. Everything hinges on how well it plays.

Hope it works for you. It should bring you joy

Thanks

Yes I saw member deepbanks sportking(I think his sides were missing so he replaced w/oak-very nice!) Well no one jumped for original so I plan on doing a lot of work this week. This is the best part of any restoration project where the ideas and vision consumes you! Thanks-Shawn

Don't hesitate. Upgrade your table to your liking and don't worry about resale. Enjoy and have fun. Good luck on your endeavor. Please post a few pics when you finish.
