do not let them touch your cue. ive seen firsthand what they do to cues. i could refer you to a guy in indy that does top notch work. take care.

thanks for your input.
but all i am wanting is to have some tips installed.
surely they could do that.

but the question still remains:
Are they now in the cue repair business?

DCP

DrCue,
I live right down the street from them.Ill have to wander over and check it out.Ill let you know what i find out.

ok, thanks sweatinNbettin,
let me know as soon as you can, i might very well be heading up there tomorrow. its a 2 hour drive, and i dont want to go there unless i can get some tips installed. if they dont do it i will go to Custom Recreation down in evansville.

DCP, my very firm advice to you for cue repairs, even something as simple as a tip, go to someone who does custom cues or at least has a poolroom where they have an established rep for repairs.
A short story for you. I have a sponsor who builds all my cues and a few years ago I was in Indy for league. The guy who built my cues was gone on vacation and I noticed on my favorite shaft the tip was loose and I took it to cue and billiard showcase. The guy at the counter said it would cost $8 so I let him put it on. When he brought my cue back he had taken a chunk out of the ferrel about 1/8 inch wide. I was stunned and went out the door. I got about 1/2 mile down the road and was fuming. I went back and the manager was at the front counter. I showed what they did and he called the guy from the back. He looked at my ferrel and said the shaft isn't perfectly straight which causes them to move when the tip is being trimmed. He told me that happens to about 90% of the cues he put tips on. They did not offer to even refund the tip cost. I told them they would never get any business from me and left. Although it didn't cost me to have the ferrel replaced, it would have someone else. I will never trust anyone working on my cues without an established rep and seeing some of their work. There are several established cue dealers and builders in Indy. If you're close to Columbus, In. try Lags Billiards. Both of the owners play and should be able to assist you in finding help. Sam

PS. sorry this is so long, but you need to realize the consequences of letting just anyone work on your cue.

well, perhaps i am making a mistake, but if Orner's can put a new tip on for me i am going to let them. and if they fail to do it properly then i doubt if i will have them do it the 2nd time.

besides, i am going there tomorrow to check out the new Powder Blue simonis color before i have it installed on my Gold Crown IV sight unseen. and hopefully run into Steve D. and see what his schedule is, and determine a time and day for him to come down. my new tips from Mueller's should be delivered today, and i can kill 4 or 5 birds with one stone tomorrow at Orners so i am gonna give them a chance.

hope sweatinNbettin gets back with his report in the near future!

DCP, I didn't mean to insinuate Orners can't do the job properly. I just know from experience what I'll do. Orner's has a good rep for tables from what I've heard about them. Good luck, If you're coming to DCC, look me up so I can see how they did. Sam

i know a guy that went to have some tips put on and they made his ferrule diameter 10mm. his shaft diameter was still 13mm but the ferrule was 10mm. thats what can happen when you just want something as simple as a tip put on. if they mess your shaft up please dont complain about it on here. youve been warned. thanks.

My one experience with Orner's was two years ago, when I was shopping for a cue. They let me hit with their cues :) , but wouldn't let me chalk it :( . They volunteered to clean the shaft of my old cue and then proceeded to sand it smooth! At the time I thought it was presumptious of them to do this without checking with me first. As a result, I don't think I would let them work on my cue.

I am looking for someone who knows how to recover tables, so DCP what has been your experience with Orner's? The tables at the Union at Purdue were set up badly and then recovered badly. I play there regularly and so would love to find someone to suggest to them to do it better. Thanks.

ok, i'll take everyone's "advice" and if i decide to let Orner's tip my cue(s) i'll make sure thats all they do. i'll be very, very precise as to what i want done, and they'll get their one chance.

as far as the tables recovered, its my understanding Orner's has an individual thats one of the best in the business. he helped with the original installation of my Gold Crown IV, and then came down last winter to put new cloth on. i've heard WillieBetMore mention his name before, and as a matter of fact, last week in St. Louis Mark Wilson even said this guy is as good as it gets. so i am going to stick with him.

i wont mention his name here, but if someone else wants to thats up to them. recommend you call Orner's and ask for someone. but remember, they are usually very, very busy this time of the year.

DCP,
When I stopped by Orners there were closed. So I didnt get to check it out. Also just a heads up, they are only open 800am-200pm tommorow.

It sounds like they don't know how to trim the tip sidewall without trimming the whole freakin' ferrule!

I just wanted to say that if I were to receive such unanimous advice on this forum I would follow it. But good luck anyway, DCP.

DCP has received unanimous advice here on AZ countless times in the past on many different issues, and the last time he followed ANY advice was when he popped out and a couple of Dr.'s and nurses smacked his ass and said "Cry you little fart, cry or I'm gonna whack your fanny again and really redden it".

I'm sure you are talking about Randy. He's is a s good as they come. He has set-up a couple tables for me. I don't think you have to go through Orners to have him recover your table.

I would be interested in contacting him sometime this spring, could you email me contact information?

no, not Randy.
the guys's name is Steve.

just got back from Orners, the guy seemed to know what he was doing. had a LePro put on the Cuetec, Everest on the Lucasi/Predator Shaft, and a Talisman on the Nova. he did say he didnt think much of the Talisman.

also got a Jim Rempe training ball. plus they let me bring home a 1' square sample of the Powder Blue Simonis that i am thinking about having installed on my Gold Crown IV. yep, this is the color they have been playing the Mosconi Cup and World Championships on, so i am gonna give Steve a call in the next day or two.

DCP

DCP.. does not the Cutec come with a Lepro? I guess you wore it out. My buddie shoots great with the Cuetec! Let us know about the Everest! Please!!
