Rumour central is abuzz with news that legendary Snooker talent Ronnie O'Sullivan will make his "Professional American Pool Debut" in the Netherlands, with an appearance at the 7th Annual Open Weert 9-Ball Championships.

HOB Weert owner Maurice Houben said "2 UK players will join the "Special Event" The 7-ball Sudden Death Challenge... with a 7000 euro winner takes all prize...
They are Hundal and O'Sullivan, they will confirm there entry this week."

The 7-ball Sudden Death Challenge will field eight of the world's sharp shooters to give the hopefully big crowd a fantastic evening of Pool.

The winner of this event will win a cool € 7000, - "winner takes all" !!!

Thanks for the heads-up and update about Ronnie O'Sullivan. Being an American pool enthusiast, I have to admit that I don't know too much about him, other than what I have read on this forum and other printed matter.

By making his "Professional American Pool Debut," does that mean that this will be the FIRST time Ronnie O'Sullivan is playing the game of 9-ball on a 9-footer? I'd like to see Ronnie O'Sullivan make his American Pool Debut here in the States, though. From what I have read, he seems like not only an extraordinarily talented player, but also one with a sparkling personality which comes through when he's in the pit. Pool as a sport needs more personalities.

Also, is there a website which provides some more info about this event? I'd love to be able to follow it online. Real-time coverage may be too much to hope for here in the States, sad to say, but with the advent of technology booming the way it is, I think this might be a possibility.

Blowfish sure did give us inquiring minds excellent real-time coverage during the 2005 World Pool Championship on AzBilliards. What a treat! It was so funny to see us fickle posters switch horses when our favorites got knocked out of the competition. And then in the end, we all had Wu fever! :p

Jam , yes there is a website.

i have posted this info some time ago already, do a search on my post. Not sure ill be able to make it, but i hope i do. Been ex snooker player, and now pool player , this is just the cake AND the cholocat at the same time.

7-ball?!

SO, just to confirm, is he only playing 7-ball at the 9-ball tourny?

With his potting skills, he's gotta be able to run out playing 7-ball. Gotta figure whether he can play pool or not, the oft-described worlds greatest snooker player ever should be able to run 6 open balls on a 9-foot table.

Here's the Official Weert Open website address:

Here's the official line so far...

Here for completeness is the venue's website:

And finally... I've been reminded that O'Sullivan actually played in the Mosconi Cup a couple of times so my "O'Sullivan Debut" remark was perhaps a little enthusiastic!!!

O'Sullivan played The Mosconi Cup in 1996 at Dagenham and in 1997 at Bethnal Green. On both occasions we lost and on both occasions 3 of the 6 man team were Brits (1996 - Davis,O'Sullivan,Richardson...1997 - Davis,O'Sullivan,Donlon).

:D:D:D

Finally, he's a pretty informative "bio" on Ronnie from a pretty nice looking website:

Enjoy!

It's pretty hyped up. He's played American pool on 9' tables before. So, it can't be a debut on that.

I'd like to see him "debut" on something else in the near future, not 7-ball. Especially if it's that ESPN non-sense.
