Our "Local" Cue Maker

Hi Folks,

One of my very good friends purchased a cue at the BCAPL Nationals from Danbuilt (Dan Dishaw). Rather than have Dan ship the cue, it was decided my friend would pick the cue up in Syracuse at Dan's shop. We travelled the ninety miles yesterday. What an adventure! What a shop!!! I never expected the level of woodworking, mechanical and computer knowledge it takes to build a top flight cue. Excuse me, a piece of artwork.

Dan was very gracious and showed us around his shop. He explained the cue making process. Just the process of making his inlays was worth the trip. There is far more skill involved than I ever expected. Can't imagine the expense of the machinery. Just the low pressure vacuum system alone. The shop was unbelieveably clean for a woodworking shop.

The next time you consider purchasing a custom cue, ask the cuemaker about a shop visit. It will be worth the trip!!! Thanks again to Dan Dishaw for a memorable experience.

LOL!!!! I spent a good amount of time with my friend Mr. Dishaw out in Vegas. He told me the quick story that he traveled all the way to Las Vegas from Syracuse just to sell a cue to someone from Rochester, NY!!!

We found it quite humerous as well. Dan's got our business. If only I didn't love my Schon so much ........ I'm suprised I haven't met you. Or have I? I visited Dan's booth many times. Dennis and Ann Coulter are good friends and were next door at the Viking Booth.

Hi Fred,

Your right, I haven't met you. My computer refused to download the video. Finally got to work today. My friend allowed me to play some racks of one hole with his new cue. It hits beautifully.

I visited his shop earlier this year. The first thing he showed me was one of his reject pieces from his 'Olympic Dream' cue for a special collector. When I saw it, I didnt see anything wrong with it, he said the baton was too short. He said that that designing and cutting piece itself 'kicked my ass'. He was also getting ready for Valley Forge, so on the first floor of his shop, he layed down some cues he was bringing to SBE.
I asked him many questions about cuemaking, and what his future plans were. He said he use to make/repair instruments, and he hopes to get back into instruments with his son.
