Outrageous Calcutta bids

Ok, Sunday I went to the local handicap tournament to play in it. And brought 150$ to bid on guys in the calcutta.

Well needless to say, I only was able to get 4 guys, well 1/4 of 2 guys lol.

The first time I went to this tournament the blind bids were going for 60-100$ and one of my friends was bought in the blind bid for 80$ and ended up winning the tournament.

Well he comes to this one and the first blind bid goes for 160$, well my buddy looks at the guy he came with and he's like dont even buy half of me lol. Well Later on I talked with his backer, and went in half with him, but he took half of another guy I bought who didnt have any money for the calcutta.

But after the first blind, but, things went crazy, the next 3 blind bids went for 170-200$

One of the A- players told a guy who bought him in the blind bid to F off cuz he wasnt paying to have half lol, and the guy went 2 n out on purpose lol.

But then during the regular calcutta even the C or C+ players were going for atleast 50$

Now when the calcutta was done, I got to talking to a friend of mine and he told me how his son, who shoots damn good, would sometimes go for 180$ in a tournament he had no chance of winning, and he said, it came to a point of they had to weigh the risk/reward of spending X amount of money with no chance of winning lol. So alot of the time, the kid wouldnt buy half of himself in a tournament.

But when does the bids in a calcutta get out of control? The thing I see in this tournament is you have really maybe 10 guys bidding in the calcutta, and several of the guys, buddy up, and get someone to buy half of what they have. But they also drive up the calcutta prices to crazy prices.
