P3 vs. c4 butt technology.

So I purchased a predator sp2 zebrawood with Revo, hoping it would be my "forever cue." (We've all said that before😂). However, the feedback from the c4 butt is WAAAAAY different than anything I've ever felt. It's not bad, just very different. Certain hits make a *thud* or hollow sound. I have used the Revo on a true splice cue and it was significantly different. I could definitely understand why someone would like that type and that amount of feedback. I just can't get use to it.

My question is, does the P3 have a more solid hit, yet still offer feedback? I'd like to hear from people who have hit with both, not people parroting what Joe Schmo said. Lol The reseller I went through is gracious enough to let me exchange the cue even though the sp2 zebrawood is a limited cue. I just want to make sure it's not the same feel. I believe the feedback from the c4 is due to the phenolic make up of the cue but I could be wrong. Personally it doesn't feel like a "premium" $1300 hit. Obviously, it's desirable to some people because some of the best players in the world use the c4 butt, including FSR. Any incite to advantages and disadvantages of c4 and P3 butts would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I’m curious myself as I have a p3.
Does the P3 have a *thud* or hollow hit when using extreme high ball or low ball? It's not the typical*ping* that people complain about with the Revo. The feedback I'm talking about is definitely from the butt.

I tired a P3 and I am currently using a true splice with a Revo and I really didn’t feel much of a difference

I doubt that however the butt is constructed it will cause a thud sound. That sounds a lot like how a Revo shaft sounds and feels.

I have no idea what's a thud or hollow hit. I Love the P3 "hit" what ever it is. I also have a Predator Roadline, and that hit is softer, but I have no idea on butt construction. The P3 is the most balanced cue I have, feels lighter than it is when in use compared to anything I've played.

The only diffrence i would say would cause a diffirence in shaft feel would be the joint material. The SP2 is wood at the joint and the P3 is either Stainless or Carbon fiber.

With the diffrence in materials at the joint you will feel a diffrence on the hit. It should be a subtle feel it would have to deal with how the material vibrates. The stainless would kill most of the vibrations and the Carbon and wood would transfer the vibrations.

I'm guessing you've never shot with a cue that has c4 butt. The sp2 with c4+ butt has significantly more phenolic in it. That definitely translates to the hit. So what you are saying is valid as far as materials feeling different. I've hit with wood, stainless and carbon joints, isn't the same as the sp2. Per predator, "C4+ adds a Uni-Loc® pin encased in a Phenolic core and also replaces other wooden components on the backside for greater stability and lifetime concentricity." So it's basically phenolic on the ends, wood in the middle and a wooden sleeve over it. The sound and feel is that of plastic with the sp2 because it is plastic. My question is if the P3 has a similar feel.

This is actually the most relevant and helpful answer! Thank you. I know what a roadline/true splice feels like. As long as the P3 feels relatively similar but better, that's good. C4 in the sp2 is unlike anything I've ever hit. It feels and sounds like plastic/phenolic because it is.

For me the butt only has a few critical data points:
Weight
Balance
Handle Diameter
Forearm stiffness
I agree. And typically I don't really feel all that much difference between butts outside of balance. I think what is bothering me with the sp2 is that the c4+ butt has a significant amount of phenolic. Looking at the predator website, the joint is either embedded in phenolic or screwed into phenolic. Not sure if you've hit a c4 butt with a Revo shaft for 2 or 3 racks. You'd definitely know what I was talking about. I don't think I would notice it that much if it were a wood shaft. The phenolic seems to resonate through the Revo way more. Predator doesn't go as in depth with the P3, with it being their newest butt, even though it's far from new, so wasn't sure if there is phenolic involved in the business end at all.

What's a significant amount of Phenolic?
It sounds to me that your knowledge is mostly based on Predator marketing.

I played with both and like the P3 more, I also found that the radial Predator cues had a nicer hit feel than their uniloc cues.

From my experience P3 butt has the best feedback from Predator cues I had a chance to shoot with,in fact it is the only one I liked🙂

I have the P3 bocote. It is a great cue. The only time I feel a ping or a weird sound/feel is if I miscue badly. It has a much better feel than my BK Rush, which is a C4.

I also have a bk rush, and your comment rings true. The feel of the BK is much different than the P3, but it smashed the hell out of the balls so i'm not worried.
