Painters Tape Question

I saw in another thread that Bob Jewett had mentioned using Painters Tape for the tape drill. So that got me wondering. Most on here know that I break alot of racks of 9 Ball. And the best place on my Gold Crown IV to break from is just 2-3 inches off the right rail by the 2nd diamond. The problem is that puts that burn streak on the table.

So, I am wondering. If I put a 3-4 foot stretch of Painters Tape on the table to eliminate that burn streak is that a bad/dumb idea? My questions are:
1) Would that affect the break itself?
2) If I left the tape on for a LONG period of time would it harm the Simonis 860?
3) Would that tape affect shots that go across it?

1. Probably not. As long as it’s straight with no wrinkles.

2. It’s not a product designed for longevity. Some tape adhesives have acid in them that might affect cloth.

3. Yes it will affect shots rolled over it especially at lower speeds.

It’s very cheap. Only takes a minute or so to apply. I would take it off regularly.

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but if you already know the best break spot for you and your table, why in a home table environment, just practicing, would you keep breaking from the same spot?
I mean, what do you care when just practicing, mix it up, move it around a bit. What's the big deal, you are just practicing, and you say you already know where the best break spot is. You can still break from that spot now and then, but the table is pretty wide with plenty of room to move that ball around. Sure beats putting stupid painters' tape down, that would drive me nuts, and maybe, just maybe, you might find another spot you like also.

Why do you care if there is a burn streak? Very, very unlikely you will wear through the cloth in the path of the break shot. In a home environment, Simonis 860 should last 5-10 years. The only area you should be really concerned with is under the cue ball as you can burn through that area. For that, use a scrap piece of Simonis for a break cloth. Also check your table spot periodically. If you wear through the spot, the cloth will be next.

I guess I need to make it clear. I am concerned about the 4-5 foot burn streak in the middle of the table.

Using a break cloth doesn't help.

You should have a separate break cloth put on when you break, then swap it to the playing cloth when in the middle of the game. If you put some quick release rails on, won't take too long to change over. Just need a photo of the table to you place the balls in the correct positions afterwards.
